    Need Help! (Honda Content)

    I think some guy might be trying to rip my girlfriend off. My girlfriend had her 95' Honda Accord towed to this kids house, who is supposedly a Honda tech, so that he could fix her car. Well, he is claiming that the camshaft is broken and wants 600 bucks to fix it. I told her it is bullshit.

    back story: A couple of months ago we were driving along and the car suddenly lost power i.e. the motor turned off. we came to a stop and tried starting it again. It started and we drove for maybe 5 more miles until it lost power again. this time it would not start up again.

    the symptoms: the car turns over when the key is turned in the ignition. only it does not fire. Does not sound like anything mechanical is wrong (sounds the same as it always does when the ignition is turned)

    My thoughts: The car is not getting spark or it is not getting fuel. I do not see any way that the camshaft could be broken, considering we drove the car after the initial loss of power.

    what are your guy's thoughts? thanks a lot

    Check the mainrelay. It's under the dash were u pop the hood all Honda has that problem

          Fuel filter? Most commonly overlooked area. Check for spark by pulling a plug , reattach lead, and then try to start.
          Distributors are a weak link on the Honda's, but definitely start with the small stuff first.

          The main relay, if blown, would cut power to the starter as well, and would not even turn the motor over.

            Could also be the camshaft driven distributor ass'y. You can pick up a complete unit for ~180 from the aftermarket. The coil and ignitor fail in those also. It's easiest to replace as one unit.

              check the main relay, or check the coil/igniter in the distributor. those are my 1st 2 thoughts of for those cars. LMK, i'll walk you through the diag. for this car.

              Also, if the camshaft is broke, open the oil cap and crank the car. Look inside the oil fill hole and see if the camshaft is moving.

                Yeah, but if the cam isn't turning, that could also indicate a broken timing belt. That may be a real blow if this is an interference motor.

                  thanks guys. I highly doubt that it is mechanical, since the car stopped, then started, drove for a little, then stopped again.

                  I am definitely getting her car out of the clutches of this crook as soon as i can.

                    Get your car back, if you can wrench on an E30 an accord is no sweat

                      getting it back tomorrow. I know I should have fixed it it from the start. Living in a city and being busy with class and work all the time make car work seem like such a chore.
