When to throw in the towel?

Sometimes we get frustrated with our cars but we usually don't give up, but I'm starting to wonder when it is time to just give up?

I have had this car since I was 16 and have been working on since I was 16. Just put a new(er) m20b27 in it and now I think it needs a new fuel pump and new suspension. The rust is slowly winning. I bought some paint last year but haven't gotten around to spraying it yet.

I'm beginning to think that I should cut my losses and get an m20b25. I mean I love this car but seriously when is enough enough?
West German BMWs, they just don't make the same as they did before the wall fell.
^Case in point: Auto-Repair Technology. Everytime my car isn't starting or acting up I let it sit, sometimes for an hour, sometimes for days. But it eventually fixes itself.

when it gets hit and even then you question really hard weather or not to fix it. I think rust is where you draw the line. We have all been there where we want to just get the car towed, but then when it does drive it puts a smile on your face in the back roads. its up to the individual, you will loose money selling these cars, so why not drive it into the ground?

        When it's totalled beyond repair.

        Then buy another one.

i think very few of us have actually sold them...

you drive them till they die... then they sit in your driveway for a while, you buy another to drive around and youj swap the first one

I'd find a better base car, and swap any cool parts I had onto it..

Never. Drive it till it dies then swap what still works to a new car.

Oh yeah I would never and could never sell it. I've put countless hours into it and no way I'd let it go for a couple hundred bucks.

I don't think I will ever actually get rid of my eta but I think I might just stop sinking money into it. I mean it still drives, who cares if hesitation is terrible and it shakes when braking? I think my money might be spent better on a different e30.

rust or damage that costs more to fix then the car is worth. If it drives I don't mind putting on fresh rubber, but more money and trouble is when I look to sell. Cars sell for a lot more if they run. It's a hard way to think but really don't fall into the trap because you spent money that you should spend more money on the car.
