I need some advice fo realz

A bit lengthy.. but thanks for your input if you give any!

I love my e30, and I want to keep driving it for ever n ever. But it needs some serious surgery.

So basically I bought it 2 years ago n the odo said 97,xxx.

Good find right? But 6 months later I find a ridiculously small hidden sticker stating it had an odometer repair. All the previous miles that was written on the sticker had been rubbed out. Soo I'm thinking my engine has like 250K+ miles. I really have no idea on the condition of it. It could have 250k, more or less.

My engine is a b27, has a huge leak, leaks oil into my coolant and gets shitty mileage. Instead of the 25-28 average miles per/gal I'd say it gets like 18ish.

My question is, should I buy a new m20 with fewer miles and just swap them? Or should I try to rebuild it? Like send the head into a machine shop.. new gasket, timing belt, water pump (maybe get a better cam for more hp :)) I basically want a m20 that will last a long time, and have b25 hp.. I'm an e30 nut just like everyone else here, but I'm a little inexperienced.

I have like $1,000. What would you do?!

Find a low-mileage M20B25 and swap that in, or maybe even an M50, you can find them for that price.

Rebuild will make your wallet sad. Swap in a b25. They go for cheap.
You could even do an M50 for a little extra.

      edit: What Janderson said.

Yah, 1k will get you a very nice, clean M20B25 with plenty left over for whatever other little bits you might need/want.

yeah: decient, average-mile b25s go for 500 ish all say long. With the leftover you can freshen the m20 up, not quite a full rebuild but a fresh m20b25i is a nice motor.
