this is where we disagree, i only want my detector to alert me to actual threats, not "blasting off" because i passed a grocery store. i can see the store, or at least i know it's there, without an alert. usually they're x or k band anyway which you can pretty much disregard 99% of the time anyway. i'm not sure how you would forget that your automute is on, it detects a signal, automutes after a few seconds if the mute button is not used manually, and will resume normal volume if another signal is detected. whats to forget? i also enjoy being able to turn off the x-band on mine, eliminating most false alarms when cruising around town.

as far as i can see there is no difference between sending in your V1 for a reduced price upgrade, and sending in an X50 for a reduced price 9500, which would be considered an upgrade, no? are you saying that being able to send YOUR V1 in for an upgrade and get YOUR V1 back is better? you're sending in a unit, and getting a better piece of equipment back for less than retail. whats the difference?

and in regards to your "radartest" website, please review that website and their intention before claiming their tests useful whatsoever.

try http://guysoflidar.com/ and their tests....they dont actually sell any products, and surprisingly have much different test results than the site you posted.

its funny if you click on radartest.com 's webstore, the first product that pops up is a 9500 and XI.... conflict of interests anyone?

thats fine, but your still arguing your preference as a feature you should pay more for; when not everyone agrees. its a nice yet useless feature in my opinion and not worth the costs. and a grocery store isn't blasting off i was referring to when a cop is ahead or behind you for an extended period i do actually like it continuing to go off, but again..personal preference. its quite obvious to me when i pass one of these (grocery store) and like i said it hardly even registers with me now anyways.

the difference is you're still spending $100-200 more for a newer piece of equipment, when you could have upgraded to the newest technology for cheaper with the v1. not gps upgraded for locations, but upgraded when new technology comes out.

i.e. new type of radar comes out (unlikely but lets play along). valentine 1 can upgrade your unit and it costs you $75. you get your unit back, or a new unit that has the upgraded quipment for $75 + shipping maybe.

other case (yours), your piece of equipment now is useless to the new radar, so you can either a. use the "rebate" program and get $80 off your $549 radar detector (costing you $470), or your can go through the hassle of selling yours to someone who doesn't know about the new radar or doesn't care and then buying a new unit... doesn't take too much match to figure out which is more cost effective. either way you're paying hundreds more for a new piece of equipment (if a new type of radar or laser equipment comes out) than you would with valentine.

so you're arguing based on semantics, dollar figures, & hypothetical situations? automute does not cost anything extra, it's a just a feature that comes on most high end detectors. in actuality you can upgrade a belltronics or escort to a later model for a reduced price, so in stating that no other company offers this, you're still wrong. it's an upgrade, at a reduced price, period. if you're referring to software upgrades the 9500 has it and you can do it at home, if you're referring to hardware upgrades, my X50 has been reliable for the past 5-6 years and i have no problems shelling out the cash for a 9500 (less $80 bucks credit for my X50 or whatever) when the day comes that i feel the need to replace it. it has served me well & saved me more money in tickets & insurance costs than what the cost of the upgrade is. if you really want to argue that the cost is different, do it elsewhere, because i've conceded this point...twice.

and as far as the link goes, obviously you're not aware of affiliate programs, where you get paid commission for selling a product through links on your website. why wouldn't you affiliate yourself with the product you believe in? that's not a conflict of interest, that is called doing business.

i've had enough of this, shouldn't you be shopping for an e30?

people can make their own assumptions on conflicts and doing business...but guysoflidar.com have NO affiliation with any and aren't making money by testing products, so make your own judgment. and the a before b debate, a being them testing and b being them getting compensation, before hosting their product on their site we will never know. all im saying is that i take peoples opinions on products with a grain of salt when i know they're getting something on the backside from one side or another.

and the point of the upgrade, semantics or not you're paying a lot more for a replacement product of the one you currently have. you aren't retaining your same model with a new version, you're being forced to buy a new product completely at a much higher cost than valentine. my original post pointed out the fact that you can upgrade your own unit for a MUCH reduced cost. if you want to debate the definition of upgrade thats fine, its useless; but my point is that when something new is released you're going to be paying much more for your "upgrade" than i will for my "update".

Most motor cops up north use Lidar now though. Also, you can still be saved with the V1 with Lidar. Its a slim chance but at least youll know for sure if youve been hit or not.

Yeah i haven't seen them much in southbay but my commute to work on a daily basis is 680 going to and from San Ramon area and at least a couple times a week I will see CHP at the 680/580 interchange using Laser on people going southbound. I'm sure overall it's worth it to invest in the V1 or the Passport one

Just don't speed and radar will never have to be detected in the first place.

Yeah, I just don't ever speed, so I don't have to worry about it.

                        ;-)

I love my V1. Especially since I got it off Craigslist for a fourth of retail.

The V1 feels like avionics where the escorts just don't have that same build quality.
