    Anyone daily an Audi?

    Anyone daily drive an Audi? SPecifically looking into the B5 A4 1.8t, the C5 A6 2.7t, or mayyyybe a B6 A4 1.8t.

I'm curious about the reliability and maintenance cost. I"m attracted to the above because, for minimal coin, you can actually see some pretty decent torque numbers. Perfect for my commute which stoplight to stoplight. Also, if anybody has chipped any of these, how do they fare long term with the chip?

    Thank you in advance.

I've got the 30v 2.8. Basically the E30 of the Audi world.

Iv also got a 30v 2.8 b5 a4, owned it for almost 2 years now, not a single problem. Only thing ive done is replaced the oil and changed the battery (due to age). I recommend getting one as a DD its very luxurious although for fun i would have an e30!

I had an 01 A4 1.8t q as a daily for about 2 years. Great car for a little while, someone that isnt comfortable doing their own timing belt and water pump at 70k-ish is going to complain about paying to get it done, its around a $1200-1500 service, and doing the clutch is a bitch too. If I did it all over again I wouldnt of gotten it in the first place. Something was always going wrong, Im just lucky I was usually able to fix everything without having to take it somewhere.

My buddy has a 2004 a3 1.8t (I believe) and hasn't had any problems so far, and it's actually a pretty quick car

Cars I've owned with this motor (and a few other turbo vw's for good emasure):

            1999 B5 Passat 1.8T -

            - Catalytic came welded off of the turbo outlet (downpipe) after 50k miles.
probably due to the fact that it was slammed on suspension.
            - Zero engine related problems
            - APR chipped for 45k miles or so
            - Traded it in at 67k miles for...

2002 GTI 1.8T - (still regret selling it)

            - AC compressor at 80k
            - T-stat replaced at 75k due to getting stuck (I ran water in it once due to
a loose coolant hose, which was my fault)
            - Mods included APR chip, 3" to 2.5" turboback exhaust, pulleys, upgraded
diverter valve, full suspension, wheels, etc
            - Ran a 14 flat in the 1/4 mile with some HUGE 18" Brock B2's on it and no
            1st gear traction.

            2007 B7 A4 2.0T
            - No issues in 2 years of ownership/lease, only drove it for about 28k miles
            - APR flash
            - suspension

            2009 GTI 2.0T
            - No issues in 1.5 years of ownership, but it's only got 13k miles
            - APR flash
            - Koni coils, Autotech rear sway

My take? The VW/Audi turbo motors are as solid as they come. The 1.8T was used for a LOOOONG time in virtually all of their models. Take care of it, and it will take care of you....simple.

Oh, and unlike the guy above...I made friends with a dealer tech and did the timing belt work for about $450 with parts included on both the transverse 1.8T and the longitudinal...this was on the side of course, as I'd never recommend for anyone go to any dealer for work (unless it's covered under warranty).

and in case u were wondering... www.goapr.com is the way to go. Reliable power and gains of 40-ish hp and 90-ish tq for about $500 bucks. Can't beat that.

            Good luck!

I'm kicking around the idea of going A4 2.8Q for a winter car/DD. I just want something reliable with great traction. I've heard the 2.8 is a very good engine-- even better than the 1.8T (though V6 tuning potential is nowhere NEAR the 4).

The 1.8T B6s have horrible engine sludge issues that Audi acknowledges but won't stand behind.

The best part is that although my Avant had only been serviced at the dealership Audi of America refused to replace the engine. They pulled my service history and told me that because two of my service intervals had been done 2-3k miles late I had voided my warranty. Because my 25k mile service was done at 27k miles that is the sole reason why the engine in my 3yr/old car had failed.

                Here was the warranty extension

I have a 98 b5 1.8t passat that I just dropped off at a shop to have the steering rack replaced[because its leaking]...later thousand $!

I bought it with 45k on it now it has 70k and ive had a few non-engine related issues

-water leaks into the rear floor
-door locks are broken, i have to lock/unlock every individual door
-window regulator stopped working, so i can't put my windows down whatsoever
                  -temp sensor is broke

other than that its been ok.

I have a 100CS Q that I beat the crap out of in the dead of winter. It breaks and I don't fix it, yet it continues to drive. Good cars.

                      I've also been tempted by a 90 CQ or a 100/200.

I cant comment on the models listed, but owned a B7 2007 2.0t S-line for 2 years. Car was amazing. In roughly 50k miles, aside from regular services, we only had 1 sensor go bad.
Like all Audis, it did burn a little oil. I usually ended up adding 1/2 qt between oil changes.
Loved the car, but had to sell it before the miles buried us in the loan.

                          I had a 1.8t b6 a4. It was awful.

I had an '86 5000 cs quattro that was running twice the stock boost and only gave me some minor electrical problems and normal maintenance in the 40k I had it.
