Help me "Name that sound" in my e30!

just got my project car registered and on the road today. As expected, I've got a few little noises you guys might be able to help me with.

    1. a clicking type of noise from the rear when I am going down the road off the power.

    2. an intermittent harmonic noise when the car is warm and in neutral or rolling in gear. (light weight flywheel?) It kinda sounds like the telephone ring that you hear when you call someone.

    thanks in advance.

btw, all suspension and motor info can be found in my build thread. I haven't updated it in a while, but it should have what you might need.

could either be the diff or the clutch disc

wow.. I'm a dumbass. Found the clicking problem. I never torqued down the axle bolts (to the diff flange) and one came out. The little plate that go around the bolts was hitting the diff mount... oops

Nice found the noise, my brothers clutch was fucked up on his 325, and clicked in the rear drove us nuts and turned out it was the clutch not even the rear end

Could be the input shaft/layshaft bearings in the trans, but that's generally a chattering sound. How loud is it? Does it happen with the clutch in?

the harmonic sound happens with the clutch in. However, there is now a sort of mild rattling, goes away when you push the clutch in... weird... anyone? I just hope I dont have to take the tranny off for the 3rd time. I took it on a 25 mile drive or so (to test it out) and the sound did not get louder. It is not extremely loud, but loud enough to hear it over my super spring exhaust on idle (and I have almost no insulation, so it is decently noisy).

it's just the gears in the tranny. the gears make a small chattering noise if you are in neutral just idling. pushing in the clutch lets them stop turning, hence the noise stopping. all of my e30s have done this, and i've been told by various mechanics that this is just what they do.

Awesome, that was the sound that worried me the most... I was afraid the tranny was going to have to come back off...

Does anyone have any idea on the harmonic sound?

It last about 2-4 seconds, and happenes every 15-25 seconds or so. It is only once the car is warmed up a little bit. I have heard that sometimes light weight flywheels will do this, and I have the JB Racing flywheel for the M50. The throw out bearing and pressure plate are both brand new Sachs parts, but I am running a e30 slave (also new). Should I be running an E36 slave?
