    s38 vs s52?

Ok, so i have to keep in mind i live in CA where the rules are a lot stiffer.:(
but i was wondering A) how hard is an s38b36 swap and how much of a budget am i looking at for it. vs. B) s52b32 which is lighter and less power?
this would be going into my mtech vert also and i don't know how much power the chassis can take.
    Much wow

It all depends on how much you get the motor for and how much work it needs. I'd say $2k + motor will cover about everything you would ever need.

M30/s38 swaps are more work than a m50/s50 swap. I'd say by about 2-3 times. SO much stuff on the m50/S50 just "blots right up".

So - I'd suggest this: Go shop for a s38. Find one that has 100k or less on it. Or find one that has more then 175k on it and ask what a rebuild will cost on that motor. It's basically like a s14 rebuild *times* the number 1.5.

Dude, your budget for an s38 build should be very fucking large. Those motors are kinda hard to find in good shape. itll cost way too much money to rebuild one, not to mention they are pricey used.

go with a s52. Cheaper AND theres a handful of e30 guys in the Bay who have done it. Which means more help.

s52 is a newer model year engine, you will have a lot more ease getting it through the CARB/BAR procedure.

I haven't done eather but that S38 motor is badass, and if any us here had the chance to get one and do the swap, I would fine it hard to believe any of us would turn it down..
If you can get it grab it.. If you change your mind you can always sell it to one of us and buy the S52....
          I see no negitive..;)

I have owned an S38 and an M88, they are very reliable motors that are a joy to drive. With that said I was always nervous about the day that I would need to do a rebuild as it would break the bank. On the other hand an S50/S52 is no different than a M50/M52 (US spec of course) so these things are cheap to rebuild and keep forever. On top of that there are so many people that have done the conversion to a M50/S50 motor that it should be a much smaller project than an S38.

Not to mention the s5x is lighter.
