    Carbon Deposit build up.

Ok so my partner has bought a new used car today, its an 1991 e36 318i with 130,000km on the clock.

There is some carbon desposit buildup when i looked in through the oil filler cap, and i am assuming this is a case of Castrol GTX.

I would like to clean this out. But am not shore how to. If it was sludge I would just change the oil a few times but I am not shore how to remove carbon build up.

    Any suggestions?

    Cheers

What's wrong with Castrol GTX? I'd bet there are more e30's here with 500,000kms running GTX than any other oil.

yep, it should be the same thing. they may also call it engine "decarb".

i know that with Seafoam, you can also add it to the crank case for sludge removal. i usually add it once a year with an oil change. just add some right before you change the oil, then take it on a quick trip to the store, just enough to get it hot and the oil up to temp. then i change the oil.

as far as the "bad" oils, you want to stay away from Pennsoil and Quaker State. i am not sure if you can get those brands "down under"? they are both parafin based motor oils and tend to leave waxy build up in the crankcase in hot climates. if the temps are like they are here in AZ (hot airid desert), stay away from those like a tranny hooker.

Cool ill try a subaru dealer and see what they say.

As for the Castrol GTX my good friend is an x mechanic and had problems with lots of cars that ran with it but did not change the oil reguarly.

I think the oil is ok if you change it reguarly. If it was not it seem that the GTX had the worst carbon build up of the lot.

Anyways ill try and get onto it this weekend and let you all know how it gose.

            Cheers Guys.
