    Anybody know land rovers well?

    I might venture into the realm of trucks/SUVs. It's an 89 range rover with a 3.9L v8.

It's cheap and it doesn't run, but I'm sure I can get it running again. I'm just looking for a cheap truck to move things that don't fit into my 318.

Anyone know of any forums for land rovers so I can read up on this truck before I check it out on Sunday?

We've had one for over a year now, and we've put almost no money into it. But we did buy it from an enthusiast.

It is an 89. And you are right about it running. It's actually in very good condition.

We buy our parts from Rover's North, they have forums on their website.

              Non-running 3.9L V8? Headgasket perhaps? It's a well-known issue.

You could swap a SBC in there for not much money. It's been done. There are kits (kind of). Cheap, reliable torque. Still thinking about doing it myself.

More so than a 20 year old E30?

Assuming one would perform all the mechanic work himself, would you still think they're expensive because of parts? or gas? I understand they're pretty reliable, so I wouldn't expect them to be breaking down all the time.

So what exactly makes them a money pit?

First find out why its not running; Discoweb.org is a wealth of information about discovery's but much of it will transfer over to the Range Rover. Range Rovers are so cheap I wouldn't pay a lot for a non runner unless it was a perfect shell and interior, the mechanical aren't hard to fix and used parts are plentiful.

Way worse than a non running e30.

I drive a 95 range rover classic. I have taken it all over the place. I have had mine for over 2 yrs 20,000+ miles and it runs great. But i agree with the SBC swap. I will be doing it when my 4.2 goes out. As for parts for the most part they are not to bad.

Farbin I would have to disagree with u. there r alot of simple things that can make one not run.

here is mine. Christmas day in Texas.

How much harder is it to run down to the local auto parts store and get stuff for it? I had trouble getting parts in a timely manner in LA Metro area. That makes it worse to me.

I work for autozone and i can get alot of the parts there. hell we had the alternator in stock. And if i cant get it there advanced seems to have some plus i can order them thru both. granted there r some parts i am having a hard time finding but nothing that would keep it from running.

on mine I priced brake rotors and pads front and rear at work and it was like $350 for parts.

My two. Got the Range Rover with a bad head gasket, fixed it 4000 miles ago and its been running great.

I will always want one. Slight lift, brush bar & a cargo rack. Oh, and it's got to have the 3-spoke wheels
