    sunroof repair help

    hey guys,
I was wondering if someone either could explain to me, or provide me a link explaining the sunroof mechanism. Basically my sunroof got stuck open and i forced it closed. I disconnected the power to it for the meantime but ideally id like to fix it but i have no idea where to even start.
    Thanks alot.

    Similar problem.

Just bought the car, the sunroof was jammed partially open when I bought it. After getting it home and looking at it more closely, two of the three brackets that hold it to the track have broken off the bottom of the sunroof panel. It looks like it just rusted.

So the problem is that I can't get to the underside of the panel because the sliding trim panel is in the way. It's actually in really good shape so I'm reluctant to destroy it. The book says that to remove the trim panel you must move the roof about 1/4 of the way back and remove the clips from the front edge. I can't get the roof to slide back far enough to access the clips and it's jammed in the tilt up position.

I think that if I can access the screws on the side that isn't broken I could probably work my way all the way in and remove the panel.

Any ideas on the best way to access those screws with the trim panel in place, or tricks for getting the trim panel out?

Anyone know how to get the moonroof back on it's correct track? I've got a manual moonroof and it seems to be off it's correct track. For those of you that have manual moonroof's, when you had the moonroof open and closed it all the way, the handle clicks, letting you know it's seated properly, correct? Mine used to do that, but now it seems to be off by 2 inches or more. Meaning the click in the handle happens earlier than it should. Any known fixes for this?

I solved my own problem by creating a three foot torx screw driver out of a length of copper pipe, and a socket. I mounted the socket to the end of the pipe using a conduit clamp (and a hammer) so that I was able to use it like a long driver. I managed to get the two rear screws out of the trailing edge of the moon roof and that allowed me to get enough access to the removed the trim clips and release the last screw.

The tracks are broken on one side and way out of wack. The clips on the inside panel of the moonroof are shot because it's rusted.

So it looks like I need new track, and probably a new moonroof unless I can figure out a way to remount the clips and seal it up a bit so it doesn't continue to rust.

It doesn't feel like my moonroof is off it's tracks on anything, it just feels like it's out of adjustment. It moves back like normal and closes completely, but the clicks in the handle just aren't right. Everything was perfect and working like it was supposed to 2 weeks, and I'm not entirely sure what happened between then and now to cause it to do this.
