    St. Helens

    This is mainly for Darkwing6...

As we all know St. Helens coughed up a ton of ash today. I was watching a blurb on the news with a reporter in Vancuver. Whats it like there? Can you see the ash?

I went up to the park which sits on the Tallest Point in Portland ( Council Crest for the locals). and Watched it fart up ash with like 100 other people. was pretty cool to see, and my dad was telling me about the last time in the 80's when it actaully errupted. got a few shots on camera and some film.

I thought it was interesting when I was watching the today show on NBC this morn' and the the guy from NSGS was telling Katie Couric that they did not predict this was going to happen and that only afterwards did they realize what the signals were. Then Katie asked him if there was any possibility that a 1980 eruption would happen again and he said probably not based on there observations, but shit what do they know, when they didn't know this was going to happen.

Bet you'll have some great sunsets to come though, with all that ash in the air, nice red sky in the evenings thats for sure.

I watched it happen at work. There isn't any ash here or anything. I think Kelso ot someplace like that is where it all went because the wind was blowing east. The only difference here is that you could see the ash coming out of St. Helens like a big cloud. Everyone is super casual about it.

EDIT: Oh ya, they had no idea this was gonna happen. They had been talking about reopening all the observatories.
