    325i sending unit fit 318is?

i was at the junkyard today
    and saw a 325i it was a 90...
would a fuel sending unit work for the 318is?
im aware that some models have two sending units?
but real oem shows one of the units as the same as the
    318is would it fit?

my fuel gauge works off and on...i think the fuel sending unit might be the
problem..i checked my cluster everything seems to be working fine...

check the grounds in the cluster first.
the sender should interchange as long as your car is an 88 or newer.

if your car is earlier, i have an extra one that will work. i picked it up before i knew there was a split on the years and it will not fit my 91 325i.
if you pay the shipping, you can have it.

when i bought the car i believe the fuel gauge was working, but the cluster was just put there most of the screws were missing and the clear plastic was not glued...well i checked the gounds on it...ill double check that again tomorrow...but my fuel gauge works only when the fuel is about to run out about a quarter left before hitting the red. i always put 10 bucks and the fuel gauge goes all the way to full....

ohh i have a late model 318is to be exact

mine was acting weird also, it would never read completely full, and start jumping around between 30LT and 20LT when it hit 20LT on the fuel gauge (it is a euro cluster).

i had taken it appart at one time to fix the SI board and paint the needles red. after doing this everything worked fine for about a year, then the gauge started acting up. it turns out that the ground screws must have worked a little loose, because when i retightened everything, it fixed itself.

now my car is more prone to vibration as i have all urathane suspension bushings, alum solid engine mounts, acetal solid trans mounts and acetal diff mount. i attribute this to the grounds comming loose over time as i know they were tight when i reinstalled the cluster.

give them a good check first. it's free and not that hard to do, before you spend your money on a new one.

aight ill give that a check tomorrow after work
my car vibrates a lot that could be the issue
but what ground screws are you talking about the little nut the holds
          the gauges?

          thanks for the replies :)

yep, but check EVERYTHING in the cluster to make sure it is properly tightened.
