    e30...my drug of choice

I can see my car from my desk at work...I look at it often and think "Fuck, there is not a whole lot that I'd trade my car for." Other times, I look at it and I think "Fuck, I must have a disease for putting so much time and money into a 20 something year old car." ...but I keep going back for more like a crackhead!

Heh, I think lots of people on this forum have the same feelings about their cars. I sure do.

I live and work downtown so I don't use the car very often during weekdays. Being 30 I often think I don't need this car and putting time, money and effort to it goes to waste... And then I take the little fucker for a drive... And suddenly all my doubts are gone.

Childish - I know. But damn I love this old piece of metal...

I'm the same way. My dad actually flew out from MD this past weekend to help me wrench on it and said "you really shouldn't be so attached to a car".

I try not to think of the time and money I put into it. I guess if I were living in a box and missing work to fix the car it would be an issue, but everyone has hobbies, right?

I throw away all my receipts from my mechanic as to destroy the evidence of how much money is spent on this car. $15K this year between the engine, gearbox and diff. I have about another $5k planned this year on cosmetics, and I have had the about 7 years. My wife would probably shit, then just laugh at me.

Try explaining THAT to my gf...

As as far as money goes - as long as I can afford it without major sacrifices, I'm ok with that.

As far as time and effort goes - whenever there is a period in which I don't do any upgrades etc. (that's an euphemism for "fixing" also), or I overlook some maintenance stuff I actually feel bad about it inside...

Geez - am I fucked in the head...

Some people buy lottery tickets every day of their lives.

I'd prefer a nice E30 to shoeboxes full of worthless tickets.
