Is insurance going to total me for a bumper?

So this chick rear ended me today, not bad. my bumper popped off on one side and some of the brackets might have broken. theres some impact scratches around the bottom.

So i filed a claim with my insurance because the chick was the type that would not pay if you tried to settle outside of insurance.

I just spoke with my friend who owns a paint/body shop and he said they might total the car. what should I do? my e30 is in great shape too. Id be bummed if they tried to offer me 1000 for my car.

I don't think they would, it only looks like the bumper is scuffed and looks like a few hundred bucks at best to fix, but I'm no pro either.

Get a quote that isn't too much and have the insurance company cut you a check..done /end thread.

If you get a quote that's 1k+ of course they'll try and total it.

no way bro! they will prbly quote you for a new bumper, and thats what around $500 at max. And if they do try to total it then tell them you have a back injury, hah, and then claim medical. But i doubt you would need to resort to such tactics

Have you ever dealt with an insurance company "bro?"

OP, you need to take the bumper off to see what it looks like underneath. Also hows the floor of the trunk? If there's a wrinkle it's totaled, otherwise I'd say you'll be fine with a check For $800-900.

to each his own, id just fix it myself and bone the chick assuming she fits the part.

its a cheap fix, it does suck to have to go out of your way for something for some
dumb broads mistake, but insurance co's are a pain to deal with.

My pops has worked in the insurance industry for many years. Here is the short of the long with a small example.

Show them market value on the car. In that, I mean, find a couple E30 ads on AutoTrader or a reputable website with profession style ads (not R3V). Tell them that it will cost X to replace your car with one in similar condition. They will usually go for that.

An example. My step bro got hit in his custom 71 Chevy with a $12,000 custom 406cu.in. three days after the car was done. He provided receipts but that wasn't enough. I spent 45 minutes going through Hemmings, AutoTrader and a few others. I found some similar trucks for 15K and they bumped his offer from 8K to 15K. Done deal.

              Hope that helps.

                    this is true.
if they try and total it out show them all reciepts you have, dont go with there first offer!
i was told by more than one person dont settle till your happy. you did nothing wrong. there first offer was 1200 for my car, i showed them recipts, told them that i bring it to car" shows" and its a hobby all that stuff. I told them that 1200 wasnt going to work for me, they called me back and ended up fixing it for just under 5000. there are a few threads about how people working with situations like yours. good luck

So i checked it out, no damage other than the scrapped up bumper. the brackets are fine and there is no denting at all. Shouldn't be more than 300 to paint the bumper. Thanks for all the input.
