buying a car out of state

so im pretty set on buying a car from NH (im from mass), and the owner bought the car from his uncle, however NH he said isnt a title state and therfore never had the title put in his name, he has the PO title, signed buy him as the buyer. as a mass resident what do I need to get the car registered? i looked around the mass rmv website, but its pretty confusing. Thanks

I would assume only the signed title, a bill of sale would be good as well too but not necessary. I bought a car from NY and all i had was the signed title, i was able to register the car with no problem (in PA) not sure if that pertains to your states involved but i don't see why it wouldn't be the same.

I just realized i misread you post, is the title signed by both the previous owner and the person you're buying it from? If it's signed by both of them he needs to do a title transfer so he can have a title in his name to sign over to you. If it's only the previous owner that signed, then you can sign as buyer and should have no issues.

no its signed by the current owner and his uncle the previous owner, so its signed twice. he said in NH, it was only used as the bill of sale, which is why he never had the title transfered to himself

Your best bet is to call DMV or where ever you go to register your car in MA.

I would try making some calls to your local auto tag notary or DMV and explain the situation to them, that sounds weird you can sign the title multiple times without having a new one issued

it wasnt signed multiple times, just twice, the PO (current owners uncle) and the current owner. but in NH, the guy said he never had to have a title in his name so he just kept the PO's title, he said he just needed registration and insurance in his name. fucking NH

to get registration over here you need the title signed into your name. you might have to get the owner to get a title in his name so he can sign it over to you.

I would do this to avoid any headaches.
