    Suggestions?

Awesome car.. but is the knock fixable.

Isn't knock misaligned timing... so maybe the timing belt isnt right or something?

Damn just saw the pic it is an auto. But seriously though what could be causing the knock?

Plugs? Fuel Filter? Injectors? Timing Belt?

I think its at least worth a look. What he describes as a knocking might just be loud ticking from the valves being out of adjustment. Most people that are used to newer cars think that any kind of noise from an engine is horribly bad, even the quiet ticking of a well maintained M20. If the engine is toast though, I'd only offer him $300-400.

If you don't know much about the M20, I'd find someone to go with you that does know what they should sound like.

you could look at it but if its got heavy knocking i would steer clear. you have a little while till you get your lisence if you got just got your permit you should wait till you find something that you dont have to work on so much. nobody wants there first car to break down. you have time save and find something that will run better. its up to you though

bet you he over headed it or worse it a piston bearing. either way it will need a new m20 or a good rebuild. aka $1500 or more.

Well isn't an M20 like $300... I can pick it up for $600 or so and for $1000 have a running car... I mean the interior of the thing looks mint!

ya you can get an engine for like 300 bucks but while it's out you are gonna wanna rebuilt it. maybe its just the perfectionist in me. but i cant see taking a week to pull and replace an engine w/o rebuilding it.

being as it will be your first time, i assume it will take you that long. like he said why go through all the work to put a new motor in it and have it shit out in a month. for 1500-2000 you can find something just as clean with a good motor. just keep looking, if you buy the first thing you find you will be kicking yourself in the pants

I'm concerned about the engine in my new car, could you please tell me more about the piston bearing? I think that is my cars problem as well.
