    Alternative to Snapon MT2500

I want a full on obd1 and 2 diagnostic computer but I dont want to pay out the ass for a snap on one. Any alternatives? I want to be able to activate sensors via the diagnostic port of various automobiles.

look at the one MAC sells. i was looking at one a few years back and it was a couple grand less and did about everthing the snap-on did and came with free upgrades for 3 years.

with the snap-on you have to pay for EVERY upgrade one at a time and that ended up being big $ on top of more $ for the scanner.

the one MATCO sell is just made by OTC so you should just go direct if you want one from them.

Having the solaris scanner updated all the time costs a fortune also. They sell decent ones at advance auto for a good price.

Ok so I guess the mt2500 is kinda obsolete. I have these choices from Snapon (prices New)

        Ethos - 1800
        Vantage Pro - 2700
        Solus - 4000
        Modis - 8000
        Versus - 9200

        From Mac
        Mentor - $?

        From Matco
        Determinator - $?

I would buy these as a used kit only. Does anyone use the mt2500? The cars I need a real scanner/diagnostic tool for are mostly pre 2005.

for used stuff check Ebay, craigslist ETC. there are a lot of out of works techs selling off stuff to make bills or retiring. look and you never know what you will find. check with the tool trucks too. they take trade ins when they sell new scan tools, you may just find what you need.

I have a OTC genysis and love it.

I might be convinced to part with it, as I rarely use it any longer

best bang for the buck is the launch x431... they have all kinds of new stuff and you should check them out. We used to have the modis... I hated it. Our mac mentor does everything our modis did. but the launch does everything we need, and when it doesn't there is always the autologic.

their website is terrible, but the tool is fantastic
