Last week my fuel pump died on my '90 325is, I ended up getting a used pump from a friend of mine off his old '89 325i. Here is the dilemma, the fuel pump he gave me has a return fuel line while my old one doesnt not. the first time i started the car it ran fine while i had the return tube blocked off with tape. So i figured "ok let me permanently seal off the return tube", i took extra fuel tubing, plugged it and threw on 2 hose clamps and i thought that would be it. But now when i try and start the car it runs at about 650 rpms than bogs down to maybe 450 then to 500 then shuts off, what is wrong?? there are no vacuum leaks or anything cause it idled fine before the pump died and is it ok to drive it with the return feed open (not plugged)??????????

For sure. Any time the car will have problems, you'll suspect the mis-matched pump.
Get the correct pump, and don't worry about it for another 10 years.Originally posted by 416strokerwell Fünfgang or whatever is the new ubernasty a whore
