Sorry man but I'm gonna have to side with TJ. You can't blame ABS for you following to close or it "failing" when you needed it. Face it, you fucked up, but I'm glad to see such a clean car is getting resurrected.

u dont have to grill the poor guy. i blamed my tires when i first totalled my 4door b/c i thought they had "broken contact for no good reason" , but after awhile i realized that if i wasnt pushing my car so hard it wouldnt have happened and no1 else was controlling the car but me. it takes awhile to blame yerself, b/c at first its so unbelieveable that it happened, that u wanna blame everything but yerself. but anywayz, im not blaming the crash on u clavin, im just making an observation based on my own personal experiences...

The people who weren't there and don't know the circumstances shouldn't be saying anything anyway.

The truth is that you guys WEREN'T THERE. His brakes flat-out locked up, and he wasn't even going that fast. You can talk to any of the people that were driving behind him, they just plain locked up, and he skidded like a kid on a bike right into that Blazer.

I'm not trying to be an asshole by any measure, but it's just the truth, people who weren't there and didn't see what happened shouldn't have anything to say about how it happened.

they're not saying that that didnt happen, but even still, locked up brakes aren't an "excuse" if he had enough distance, he should have had enough time to realize and pump his brakes, its not totally his fault, but its not not his fault either, its a mute point.

I suppose I can agree with that.

What is that old physics equation to figure the velocity of a car before it began its skid?

V = the square root of MU x Gravity x distance of the skid

You know the distance of the skid? Gravity is constant, so you know that. All you need is MU. That might be tough.

Was it a dry road? There has to be a general coefficient of friction (MU) for a dry, (whatever kind of pavement you were on) road.

                            :)

Dry, smooth (old and weathered) tarmac.

                              It was about 75ยบ outside.

I think we established the longer of the 2 skids was 65ft in length.

"The coefficient of static friction for rubber on dry tarmac is approximately 1.0, whereas the coefficient of dynamic friction is approximately 0.91. If a car is travelling at 70 mph find the difference in stopping distance between the two situations of when the tyres are just on the point of skidding (such as can be achieved with ABS braking systems) and when they actually skid."

cool. 1.5 secs of skid, 65 feet TOPS.
