    Shipping Advice Needed, im dumbfounded

Ok, I'm an experienced ebay seller, i've sent hundreds of items to people around the world video games, car parts, misc stuff... I've shipped Cylinder Heads, etc... whatever... no problems

but recently a friend of Jordan needed a plastic bumper 89-91 style..
Through Fedex one can ship a 47lb cylinder head + packaging = 60lb package across the states for a mere $21.00.. but after measuring the plastic bumper

66 in x 24 in x 6 in, those dimensions through fedex at 20lbs and that's being lenient with packaging which i dont like the idea of is almost $90!!

Can anybody give advice on how to ship / or how you would prepare a plastic bumper to be shipped?

    Thank you very much

You can ship it to my bodyshop. It would be alot cheaper I would imagine.. Shipping to a business that is.

Body parts are expensive because of dimensional weight. Even if the bumper weighed one pound, the fact that it takes up so much space on the truck causes a dimensional weight to be automatically added.

You could bubble wrap the bumper and ship it unboxed, which may help because the girth would be reduced. Otherwise, have you tried Greyhound? They're pretty cheap, but both the shipper and receiver have to be located near a terminal or be willing to drive to one.

I know it sounds silly but have you checked with the Post Office (Parcel Post). I've sent a lot of relatively big and/or heavy items and it has always come out cheaper than UPS and Fedex. I sent a set of four pickup truck aluminum alloys last year (in two 45lb. boxes) and the total was less than $40. It might be worth checking into. You can get delivery confirmation for just over a buck extra.
