I need one of these things, like seriously....

    Infrared'd E30!

I was checking around and Daimler and Hummer are sporting them,
why not my E30? Let's see that cop try to give me a ticket now. j/k
I can deffinetly see the practical applications for these things, I guess
after a little research they aren't horribly expensive either, just
    2600 a pop!

This is MUCH better than my idea to integrate a cell phone head adapter
into the seat, for hands free calling. Besides OnStar screwed me there.
What you guys think? I emailed them and they should get back to me soon.

Hmm I like the idea. My guess is it's pretty much the same effect as having night vision goggles. But the material is on your windshield? Correct?

Foward Looking InfraRed. Kewl shit. Similar to nightvision except they see changes in temperature. The nice thing about FLIR is it doesnt need ANY light, NVGs amplify ambient light.

I got to use a FLIR camera in a demo car (cop car) a while back and it was kewl. You could see a handprint on the wall that I had leaned up against like 5 minutes after I had moved.

You talk about hiding from cops, if these systems get cheap enough they will replace the spotlight on the a-pillar. Then they can just follow the hot footprints or tire tracks you left on the ground 10 minutes before.
      Im now E30less.

Thats awesome! I knew they were heat sensitive, but didn't know about it being able to see differences in temp that would have dissipated over a 5-10 min period. Good stuff 8)

The cop was telling me in the heli it helps in a nighttime chase because what they do is fall back and just follow the heat trails left by the tires if someone is running rural. You can also tell if a car was parked in a stall for a while because the ground under it will be warmer for as long as 20 minutes.

He also said the big reason they want in on the cars is its easy to find stuff they dump on the fly because the heat from the hand makes it glow like its on fire. Its crazy shit.
