    Looking for a bit of advice

    So ive been looking for an e30 for a while and have had a few sold out from under me...I just found an m5 that sounds like a good deal and im wondering what you guys think? what are these things worth these days? He is asking 5500 and it sounds like a decent deal...

    heres a description from the owner:

    - Paint is a 9 out of 10, some minor dings but you have to look for them. No fade, no rust, looks so good in the sun.
    - Interior is a 9 out of 10, front leather seats are cracking (common) and one crack on dash (also common). Otherwise, no stains and bright, clean tan interior with leather padding.
    - Very small "ding" in windshield; it has been there since I bought the car and is about half the size of a dime (barely noticeable -no starburst effect).
    - 168,000 miles, and drives very well.
    - Transmission upshifts smoothly through all five manual gears plus reverse. However, downshift from 3rd to 2nd can grind if not done carefully.
    - Tires have plenty of tread on them (70-80%).
    - All windows, electronics, sunroof, seat adjustment mechanism, lights operational.
    - Adjustable suspension system taken out by previous owner (system prone to failure); everything else is ORIGINAL and maintained as such.
    - All maintenance records available; this car has been meticulously cared for by me and the previous owner.
    - CD player with upgraded speakers and tweeters; good sound system.
    - Temp gauge has always been inaccurate and "pings." It is NOT overheating, thermostat was replaced as well as radiator in last two years; may need new temp sensor or fan clutch.
    - Full-size spare, and custom BMW rims included.
    - Car is driven regularly and has never had a single problem.

    If it is a 9/10 I'd say go for it. My advice would be to find something on it that needs to be fixed/updated and offer him 5K

      If that's really case, it sounds like a good deal.

      I'd still have a PPI done on the car to check the health of the motor. Maintenance on an S38 will bankrupt the average R3V'r.

            Ask for compression and leak down numbers. Any competent person that is trying to sell an M5 will provide them (maybe this ones is a 'tard?). And yeah, PPI, preferably somewhere that knows a thing or two about the s38.

            That price seems too good for a "9/10", but its pretty resonable for one w/ a fucked up engine. It costs what, $10k(?), just for parts to do an s38 rebuild. I would want to be keeping that in mind.

            But if it is actualy in good order, you better buy that thing...seriously meow.

            Really though, I'm sure you could have done some of your own research on the car...go to mye28 (assuming its an e28 ) etc. ....and, SEARCH.

                been doing research but just looking for a little extra info from others is all.... still kinda undecided as ill have to fly out to CA from Boston and its kinda risky...
