    '91 318is value

One owner, 48,xxx miles (all service records)
    KBB 3rd party: ~$3,500

I found a seller asking $6,200. Does this seem right or is he asking too much?

If the thing is in mint condition: near perfect paint, barely worn interior, and flawless mechanical condition, it would be worth $6K to some people. Me included.
Extremely good condition E30s are getting harder to find. A lot of people think the 318is in particular is worth more than other E30s of the same condition/mileage.
I'd obviously try to talk the seller down a lot. Even with less than 50K mi it will need some things replaced if they haven't already, based on age. Remind the seller of the KBB value and try to point out every flaw in detail.

Just like any 14 year old car, various hoses and electrical components could be on their way out. It doesn't matter if the car has 50 or 250K miles on it - it's been on the road for 14 years and some stuff will be worn.
Find out from the owner/seller what has been replaced recently or in the last couple years.

low mileage could be a bad thing if maintenence records weren't maintained. Otherwise if everything is mint, its probably worth 6K.
Renting my rear wheel bearing tool kit. SIR

Rubber parts deteriorate due to time as much as miles.

                    tires(ever heard of "dry rot?")
                    belts
                    hoses
flex disc and center support bearing on the drive shaft
                    suspension bushings

You could spend thousand$$$ having this work done.
I've been quoted $500 just to replace the two rear subframe bushings which are a PITA to DIY.

Also, don't believe 50k miles over 15 years unless you verify it on Carfax.
