An Integra GSR is a really fun car that can be picked up pretty cheap nowadays or a Prelude but that is harder to find. It would seem that if your picking something up to drive while you put money into the E30, you should look for a car that isn't going to require a ton of money to be dumped into it. Anything Japanese will work for that, I'd avoid late model German at that price point. You could probably pick up a decent 5.0 Mustang for that and those have a good amount of power, if I was staying under 5k I would go for mid/early 90's or older and get the best car for the money.
Edit: I just read "RWD" so disregard most of my post but they are still fun cars, maybe check some out.Leave a comment:

the 4th gen Fbody has been suggested, but also the late 3rd gen. A 91-92 Z28 would be good. the 305 w/5spd is more fun than a 350 w/auto, or get a 350 and swap in a t56(try to get a 93tranny) or 5spd. I used to own one before i got my 97SS. lots of torque, easy to mod, sounds good tooLeave a comment:

I'd suggest an LT1 six speed F-body. But it's hard to find one that wouldn't be beat on for that price range. Now a 4th gen F-body with V6 and 5 speed could be had for that price. Since you stated about a V6 Mustang.Leave a comment:
