Wicked rally accident

Not a rally, an off road race. Very different in the type of spectators. This place is one of my old stomping grounds from the 80-90's off-road/baja scene. A lot of my family still races out there, I heard about this before it happened, and am still waiting for a call from a friend, who's brother is one of the 12 injured.

Now the flood of people claiming the driver should be punished will wash in. As if those who were spectating didn't know of the dangers of standing that close to a vehicle in that sort of terrain on the edge of its performance potential. For all things 24v, check out Markert Motorworks!Originally posted by mbonanniI hate modded emtree, I hate modded cawrz, I hate jdm, I hate swag, I hate stanceyolokids, I hate bags (on cars), I hate stuff that is slowz, I hate tires.
I am a pursit now.

It's 100% their fault for being that close to an open course.
I used to watch stupid mexican kids in baja run out and try and slap the class 8 and class 16 buggies we were running support for as these vehicles flew by at 120+.
I can't say I didn't see a few people get hit back then. I've learned, you cannot keep a stupid animal alive, no matter how hard you try.

He added that some members of the crowd had been standing just 10-feet from the dirt track when the crash occurred. "There were no barriers at all," said Talbott. Footage of last year's event on YouTube shows drivers performing stunts close to spectators, who are standing behind a thin orange mesh.
The crash is the latest in a series of race accidents that have proved fatal for spectators. In February 2008, a car smashed into a crowd that had gathered to watch an illegal drag race on a suburban street in Accokeek, Maryland, killing eight people and injuring five. The two drivers were charged with vehicular manslaughter. Darren Bullock, 22, was sentenced to 15 years in jail, and 20-year-old Tavon Taylor, is still awaiting trial.
As an amateur motorsports volunteer, participant and enthusiast it really pisses me off that those who are none of the above mentioned and have no knowledge of motorsports try to condemn such activities by bringing up stupid shit like this.
That being said, I do feel as though it was an unfortunate accident and that none of the people injured or killed deserved it at all; but it was just that, an unfortunate accident. I'm sure the driver will feel guilty enough that any punishment he will likely now see will be nothing compared to his own sense of guilt.

^I think I would kill my son/brother/father for standing so close in the first place.
Wow, whoever wrote that article is a piece of shit:

This has no place in the damn article.Last edited by dnova89; 08-15-2010, 11:58 AM.

At the Rally America events i went to earlier this year, they were very stern about where spectators should and shouldn't be. It seems like the even coordinators should have been a little more mindful of crowd placement here, especially right after a jump.
