N-C Williamsport area, the shop is in Allentown. I have been all over eastern PA NJ MD and spent most of 08 in NY (gun stayed in the safe at the shop that year, it was the most uncomfortable year ever)

Should be out a 2-3 year project near Williamsport with in the next couple of weeks, its due to kick off any time now after a 5 month push back.

Bah, eastern PA. Out where there's actually something worth going to within a 4 hour drive :p (AND isn't Ohio).

I pretty much avoid anywhere that either my VA or PA permits aren't accepted...which, conveniently, isn't anywhere I like to go anyways! The only real PITA for me is Maryland, which I have to drive through for 2.2 miles on my way 'home' to Virginia. Lets just say I drive EXACTLY the speed limit through there ;)

I Agree with you on the carry thing, But with my job its nearly 100% impossible to carry all day. that and really not supposed to have a gun on most of the projects I work and can get run off for it. . Not that 99% of all the welders and inspectors dont have them in their rigs too. The last one I was on was cool though, me, the chief inspector, Welder foreman, Contractor Supper, and the gas company rep, were all having a little fun with CCW's and a pizza box after lunch one day, after consulting the gas company regs that firearms were not allowed on the job. I toss it in my bag so I dont have to leave it in my hotel room and have the whole case come up missing or leave it in my personal truck when working and have the same happen to it while parked at a hotel.

I agree its not always possible to carry a gun on your body everywhere you go...back when I was going to school, I would carry in my bag as it definitely aided in concealment, and was a better compromise IMO than not carrying at all - carrying on college campuses is legal in PA, however my school's policy was to basically expel you if caught. While illegal for the school to do this (since it was a public school that accepted state funds) if you were expelled you were basically on your own to fight it through the court system. Complete and utter academia BS (where else could you get away with sh*t like this?) but reality nonetheless. In fact, a good buddy of mine would leave his gun in the car during class...his car was broken into in the student lot one day, and it was stolen. He filed a police report, the college caught wind of it, and all shit hit the fan. He's still mired down in the courts suing for reinstatement...

While I agree that special circumstances sometimes require carrying in a bag...most people are better served with it on their body. But, it's uncomfortable, tough to conceal, etc etc...guess it depends on your dedication/motivations for getting a permit.

That was awesome! One day I'll figure out how to carry around a fully kitted MARSOC operator...till then, my G19 will have to do. Oh, and maybe one of those 'rape alert stations' you see around college campuses :p

I carry a Maxpedition Jumbo fairly regularly...though my CCW + 1 extra mag stays in a IWB holster. I don't like the idea of carrying a gun off the body, for a myriad of reasons. If I think it is important enough to carry a gun (which I do 24/7) it is important enough to be physically on my person.

BTW - I've been in the tactical business for a day or two now (Marine Infantry/later firearms instructor, now part-time law-enforcement instructor) and probably 70-80% of Blachawk's more popular designs over the years have been blatant made-in-Vietnam rip-offs of products designed by American small businesses.

Ahhh I see, was under the impression you were a Civil E or surveyor or something. Still Tape and TP should be in your bag. Never ever go anywhere with out TP. Its one of those modern things you dont ever want to be caught with out in a unexpected call of nature. I have gone into the corn field or the Box culvert under the Highway fully clothed and come out Sans socks and shirt sleeves, one time the whole shirt too.

I downsized form a backpack to a Maxpedition Jumbo EDC last year. I won't be going back anytime soon, being able to get into the bag to get my water, knife, laptop, sunglasses, gun quickly and all without having to take it off is worth any comparison to a purse I may get ocassionally.

1. Laptop (Dell mini 9 in neoprene sleeve)
2. Steno pad-greg ruled/notebook (custom made by rite'n'rain with water resistant paper)
3. Water Bottle (1L Nalgene always)
4. Pens/Pencils (fisher space pen, Carpenter pencil,
5. Penlight (streamlight LED)
6. Trauma Kit (israeli bandages, gloves, and celox)
7. Files/notes (Folded in half and tucked in steno pad)
8. Multi-tool (SOG EOD w/crimper and seatbelt cutter)
9. wallet/IDs when not being used/security access cards
10. dedicate knife (Kershaw Blur)
11. Gun (when not on campus)
12. Extra mags
13. Flash Light (Petzl TakTikka frees hands for other uses)
14. Mini pharmacy(in small seperate pouch)
15. 'biner (holds my hat most of the time)
16. Sunglasses (in a case)
17. Otterbox containing-Laptop power supply, bluetooth earpiece, 16 GB flashdrive(contains canned OS/apps), Cell batteries x4 (to make it through 48 hours hard use without having to charge if needed) and a 6" USB cable for charging the phone if I get the chance.
18. 2x gallon and 2x quart freezer bags for protecting laptop, cell, pager, ect. from rain if caught outside.
19. Starbucks Via instant coffee x4 (can't stand a shift with a coffee addict that hasn't gotten their fix)

Again, their gear slingers are nice, but they can't fit my laptop... :( Oh and hand sanitizer is another great addition...haha I'm gonna have a full survival pack by the time this thread is done!

Being in the field for me usually means in a factory or manufacturing plant...those things may be handy, but would likely be over kill for me.

I may add some ty-wraps to my bag though, but the paracord seems like a more universal solution.
