have to buy whole new tool set in metric form, tiny crevices for bolts where no tool or hand fits, breaks every month, yet to feel the ultimate driving machine feel, 1 1/2 yrs of ownership actually on road 10 months, help restore faith that this car is worth all the trouble
So,
I'm questioning whether I should keep or sell the ol'e30/money pit.
Yes,I know it's a 20 yr old car, yes I know its the ultimo driving machino, and no don't tell me if you have any questions on fixing processes;to just not work on cars.
I'm not sure in the 1 1/2 yrs I've owned it, how long it's actually been on the road.
My neighbor said it should be called a FORD (fix or repair daily) haha barely english speaking old man!
I work on it alot, mainly the 20 yr maintenance
New brakes,rotors, bleeding system.
Timing belt.
Lowered suspension but still not coil's.
Other maintenance items I can't even remember now, but the point is the hassle upon every repair.
I bought a bad rotor and the car seized up on the rotor causing it to snap brake lines and eat up dust plate and rim, twice!
Now in the middle of a dead master cylinder and slave cylinder, car is in driveway on stands once again.
Thank you BMW for all the metric tools needed for this car and the incredible nooks and crannies to fit non fitting tools I just bought for this car alone.
BIKE WRENCH?! WTF!
And yes I bought the Bentley Manual for this car and it sucks balls (just pull this screw out and pop this in,yada, yada, etc. no pics no step by step just type). I wish I had ordered the Pelican Parts 101 projects to do, as this is where I usually go for any repair info needed.
I had a 240 before this and thought that had the smallest nooks and crannies to fit wrenches into, but I was wrong. In comparison that car is the easiest thing to work on, especially suspension.
I'm thinking now of a 50's 60's chevy pick-up to work on to relieve the stress these import cars have caused me. *just unbolt the 3 bolts on the alternator, that is in your face and eye level!*
So I have yet to feel the ultimate driving machine feel on my part. Maybe it's just me, All I have is a useless intake and all the maintenance that needs to , be done. Not too much fun stuff yet. I'd like to continue and do the short shifter and a smooth exhaust, maybe a new bumper and cooler wheels. I see the field is all oem sleekness, and that's considered 'proper and nice'. There is even a huge lack in the shift knob fun category. The selection is primarily the zhp weighted knob and maybe a lighted version of that. Both cool but where are all the after market shift knobs to mix it up. I say this of course coming from the fun expanded world of the S-chassis and aftermarket shops that all make fun shift knobs and such.
I am only bringing this up as to restore my faith in the BMW E30, and I'm reaching out to my fellow enthusiasts to rekindle that flame and the overlooked joys of owning a BMW E30. It's gotten so bad I'm thinking of selling my e30 off and getting a 4 door e36!
