    26 hrs, 593 miles, a Carrera 4S, 12 1/4 miles passes & a

The trip to ATCO was an adventure. I drove down to Tim's Friday night. I arrived at 10:30 and then we went out to meet one of his friends to show him my car. Returned back to his house at 1AM. Mike K. arrives at Tim's house around 0645 the next morning! (Thanks Mike)

We get ready and take off to ATCO. On the way a new 911 C4S comes flying down the road. I pull behind him and match his speed at about 80mph in 3rd gear and about 5000rpm. He hits it and we are on. It takes a moment to match his speed and then we blow by him! We probably pulled about 6 car lengths from 80-130. Mike K. will tell you about the look on the guys face when we went by him.

I made a total of 12 passes at the track and really learned alot about the car. My best run was:

    60' 2.327
    330 6.058
    1/8 9.023
    MPH 84.28
    990 11.447
    1/4 13.577
    MPH 108.96

The car has so much more potential in it's current form. It certainly would have run 110-111 everytime but it was bouncing the revlimiter in 3rd gear about 5/6 car lengths from the finish line. I have a 6600rpm chip that will fix that. I was actually learning how to launch it. I heated the drag radials big time and they got really sticky. They had enough traction that I needed to launch at a really high rpm or the engine would bog. My best run the engine bogged and then spun first and second gear.

On my last run I dumped the clutch at 5500rpm and the cars 60ft time was 2.15. This run would have put me 13.2 or lower. I shifted into 2nd and SMOKED the clutch! Go figure. After letting the car cool down the clutch was fine. These type of launches are going to require a 6 puck clutch!

As I neared home a WRX actually picked a race with me. It's the first time anyone has ever intiated a race with my 5er. We got a light and fortunately he left kinda soft. I spun all of first and he had a car length on me and then I passed him spinning second gear and then put 7/8 car lengths on him in the early part of 3rd.

All in all the car performed flawlessly and continues to take the severe punishement!

            Thats really good!

Were you running with full interior? and how much boost were you pushing?

Your 60Ft 2.327, is little high for drag radials...

I wish I had my car and time to pull up with you guys!

Scales were broken at the track but I suspect the car weighs 3100lbs w/o driver. Full interior. Yes, 2.3 sucks! I was running 15lbs of boost.
              Thanks,

Only 3100, wow! I really expected around 4. I've always been under the impression that those cars are huge. Maybe not then. Either way those numbers are excellent.

                  hey TCD,
how do you pull that much boost without knocking? what fuel system and what ignition system are you running?
I am in the middle of a megasquirt nightmare... I'm think I am hearing knock at 8PSI waterinjected, intercooled, outside temp of 40 degrees F.
I didn't think that could happen. infact, it sounds impossible. oh yah, the gas I am using is 93octane, and the water injectiion is 60/40 water/methanol.
what the christ, it only started happening within the past month or so, and the car has been turboed since september.. The noise is a random clicking, that sounds like it is coming from in front of the knee bolster, it happens only at full load.
                  any Ideas?

                    Peter,
Sounds like a fuel delivery problem. What size are your injectors? Are you running any additional fuel pressure.

                    My specs are:

                    8:1 compression
                    36lb injectors
60psi of fuel pressure at full boost
7 degrees of total ignition retard at full boost

That's it. I was getting minimum 15psi non intercooled.

I am running 19lb/hr injectors @ 3.25 bar. ON the dyno with a wideband I was gettin 10:1 A/F ratio.. that is really rich if you ask me.
how are you getting the boost timing retard?
what ignition system are you using?
I was suspect of lack of fuel, but 10-->1 is really rich... I mean it smelled like a sulfer bomb when off in the dyno room.

                        Peter,
Something has changed since the dyno. Maybe you have a bad injector? Are you using the stock fuel pump? Mine was fine for about 7k miles and then it couldn't keep up with the volume. You need to look at the fuel all over again.

You don't need any ignition retard at such modest boost levels.

If you are trapping 109 i do believe you should be running a high 12. Your 60' times should be around 1.6XX for a good time. A better clutch I think will definitely get your times to where they should be. What engine is in that car? What did it begin life as? a 535 or what? Very sweet car.

It's easily a 12.75 car. I am converting it to an automatic early next year and then adding an intercooler and an additional 5psi. It will ultimately run deep into the 12s or even better.

                            It's a 1985 euro 535i with a bone stock US 3.4L.
