I will be driving my 1991 318is to New York from Milwaukee on monday. What sort of checks should I do besides regual oil, belts etc. I dont wana break down.
check for suspension issues/ bad ball joints or tie rods, tire pressure, coolant, brake fluid, brake pads, check all 4 tires entirely.. here is what i found the day i left for a trip from savannah to d.c.
i had checked all tires completely over about 2 weeks prior and it wasn't there, did a quick glace a few days prior and had missed this... i got lucky and was putting 4 tires on the car anyway but if i had left town not paying attention i could have had a blow out and who knows what else could have happened as a result..
Tires are cool. Ya I was gonna bring tools and a good jack, just in case. Everything is good as far as I can tell. I'm just praying for that m42 reliability
I have a caliper that squeaks every once in a while. As if the pad wont return, or piston wont retract all the way. It doesnt do it all the time and hasnt affected driveability, so I should probably fix that huh?
haha i just posted about all the road trips i have taken in my m42 on m42club.. i would not worry... mine has over 300k miles and this year alone i have probably driven 10-15k miles easily already.

mine has been doing that.. it was a stuck caliper bolt. it went metal to metal on me on my trip back down from d.c. in july. i just swapped the pads and fixed the bolt after the trip.. i should have gotten it fixed before i left but i was strapped for cash. if it isn't causing driving issues and you have plenty of pad i would stress it too much.
Sweet Im so stoked for this trip. I had I had a lifted Jeep before this and would manage approx 9 mpg between milwaukee WI and bozeman MT. I'm going to enjoy not stopping every 180-200 miles for fuel.
I have put over 1k miles on my E30 since Monday, driving to clear my head and ended up in Atlanta among other places. The main thing I need is OIL. I put 2 quarts in it over the course of 1k miles. Keep an eye on fluids whenever you stop.
Btw, bring sun block if you like to ride with the windows down, fml:
No one thought it would go 100mph without stuff falling off so I just had to do it:
