Looking into nninbuying a 3,0cs, was hoping someone could chime in on this deal

Sorry I know this is predominantly an e30 forum, but I registered for the e9 forum and am still waiting for confirmation, so I thought I would post here in the meantime.

The car i'm looking into is a 74 3.0cs, manual trans. All original, the body is in very good shape for the most part, interior as well (seats are great, wood veneer not so much). The car is currently not running, I was told it needs some carburetor work and a new fuel tank. I was offered the car at $5k. Still has the original owners manuals and window sticker as well. Was wondering if anyone had any insight as to whether or not this sounds like a good deal. Some pics below, feedback appreciated!

    Thanks,
    -Nadir

+1 if the body is good, no rust etc...i would buy it... it's pre-smog and manual!

I'm seein rust at the gas tank (?), and the bay is looking pretty dirty.

Go through the steps for inspecting and buying old rust prone cars.
        Then ask yourself some questions.

        And then just buy it.

LOL, I like that last part. The engine bay is definitely pretty dirty. The car was last registered in 04, and even then and in the years prior, was driven very sparingly.

Only thing I don't like is the federalization markers.

Eventually down the road, if I pick this car up, I would repaint it. Those can be addressed at that time :-)

Looks sweet, for that price I'd pick it up.

Before you make your move make a list of what need to get it running and/or you'd replace on it, have it quoted by Maximillian or other MT expert and then multiply that by 2 or 3 and see if it's still a good deal. Ownership of an e9 gets expensive pretty fast even more than e24 M's or E30 M3's!!

I agree. It looks a little dirty but, It should clean up. Also looks like it may need an exhaust.

If you do buy, your kind of required by law to restore the thing.

And I guarantee it has a good handful of rust sores growing in various spots. If the current owner let it get as dirty as it is......well self explanatory. And thick layers of dirt are very skilled at hiding things.

For 5k the car is probably a good deal but, as stated how much money are ya looking to throw into the thing? If the answer is only enough to do a hafl-assed resto, ya should pass it onto some1 who can do a better job.

However the fact that your considering dropping 5k on a dirty, visibly rusty, poorly-ish cared for, non-running e9 means you probably have a decent amount of disposable income....

Looks like a receipt instead of an invoice.

If you do buy it and need engine trans let me know. I have a low mileage from 73 with dual carbs and super tight/clean trans.
