I think a thread on the most underrated BMW would be a better topic and less emotional/fanboy filled.

Fuck BF.C We need the most overrated e30 list...

To me it goes like this:
          1. Slicktop 318iS: unless you're building a race car, I can't seem to justify WANTING a BMW without a sunroof.

          2. Tourings: besides being jaw droppers, they're only desirable, because they're rare. For the price of ownership of one, you could easily have a much MUCH better e34 or e39 wagon.

          3. 325eS/iS: This kind of hurts a little, but everything that comes from factory as an option on these models must be replaced and upgraded after 20+ years.

Overrate: to rate, value, or estimate too highly

            e30's are a little over-rated, let's be honest.

I'm 6'4" and have short legs, I'll take all the headroom I can get.

When I put a helmet on it gets even tighter. In my previous e30 (an '87 325iS) with my helmet on I had to lean the seat so far back I couldn't reach the shifter any more. I finally wound up putting the shoulder belt behind me and using only the lap belt (this was at an autocross with no risk of collision) and hunching way over so I could reach the shifter/steering wheel.

I love E30s to death, but I understand where they lie in the car food chain. They are old low-ish powered 1980s cars with mostly nonfunctional air conditioning systems, they are loud by modern standards, and they are most fun when the suspension is nearly unstreetable.

So, in comparison to a 400 hp JB3d 135i with nice cold air conditioning, a luxuriously appointed interior with non-rattly seatbacks that stay when reclined forward, and a nice and quiet cabin, the E30 appears to be a POS. OK fine, the E30 is sort of is a POS in many ways, but it brings a smile to my face.

The E30 is not 28-day aged prime Porterhouse with tight, even marbling, minimally seasoned, kissed by the flame of a well-seasoned gas broiler for the shortest of durations, and served at a great restaurant surrounded by the best of company and the best of drink. No, the E30 is like a palm-sized flank steak you cook yourself, with no sides because you're too cheap to buy New potatoes (too expensive per unit weight) or haricots verts (same). To drink, tap water, Brita-filtered if you're lucky. You've captured the essence of the cow, but nothing else.

You can't expect everyone to enjoy or understand that.
