My car has the uncanny ability to repair itself?!?!?

Last night after doing an extensive tune up, the idle got alot smoother. I think it was more due to the vac leak I found in the air intake tube that was causing the problem (on the bottom of the hose where it meets to the int. manifold). After this the check engine light was still on, but it was running much smoother.

After work last night I took it home and was suprised to see that the light had shut itself off. not only that but it was running soooo much smoother, and powerful! all I did was replace the cap and rotor with new ones dated 08. The old stuff had dates on them of 96! It's pretty tought replacing the cap and rotor given where they are located. I tried to keep the order correct for the wires but noticed that all the wires and the new cap all have the correct seq number already stamped on them. This really helped keep everything in order and much easier to replace the cap and rotor.

I also replaced the oil and filter, air filter, fuel filter and spark plugs. I purchased a new set of Beru wires but never installed them, as I've heard that the wires never really get worn down, just damaged from heat or pulling on them incorrectly.

I had a bit of a hard time finding the fuel filter as in my haynes it's listed as being on the firewall. Thankfully it wasn't as it's far easier to access under the car on the drivers side where I finally found it.

I'm consideirng putting my perf chip back in, but wth the way its running now, I think I'm just gonna focus my funds and time on keeping it as mint as possible as a daily driver. Gonna return the wires and get a new deck instead!

    happy motorin!

So why didn't you replace them?

Working on your car is pretty rewarding, even if it's just regular maintenance. I feel your joy.

Cause they were still good. I didnt' have any misfire at idle and the wires themselves looked fine...jsut old from being 22-23 years old (still have traces of Cosmoline on them). I could have, but decided to put the funds to a new deck instead :D
