E38 Auto Dimming Mirror Retrofit - Need Some Elec. Help

Just bought an auto dimming mirror that was pulled from a 1997 740iL. I'm determined to retrofit this to my E30 but I need some help identifying the wires.

If anyone out there has access to the info I would be forever greatful.

I need to know what each wire goes to. Here they are..

    - Blue / Yellow
    - Brown / Black (most likely ground)
    - Red / Black
    - Green / White
    - Gray / Black / with Yellow dots (dashes?)

I remember I looked into this a while back. I have the mirror somewhere although the one I got only had 3 wires. I found out what two wires were but couldn't figure out the 3rd. I'll look into it and follow up.

        Thank you sir.

Anyone else out there maybe have an E38 Bentley that could dig up a wire diagram?

Uh... installed one of these in my e30 years ago. Just checked my car, and the wires I have is solid brown (ground) and green /w red stripe (positive)

There is a third wire you can connect to the reverse light +, which cancels the dimming when in reverse. I haven't felt the need as my windows were too dark to see through at night anyways...

I'll check my e39 bently for you.

Every day I wake up we drink a lot of coffee and watch the CNN
Every day I wake up to a bowl of clover honey and let the locusts fly in.
            Lobsterbacks attack the town again
Wrap all my things in aluminum
Beams of darkness streak across the sky
Pink rays from the ancient satellite
Every time I look out my window same three dogs looking back at me.
Every time I open my windows cranes fly in to terrorize me.

I believe there is a thread about swapping the dimmer/dome light from an 5 series into an e30.. If I find the thread I will copy and paste it..

found it and hope this helps..

But I'm not swapping in a 5 series dome light.

                Its a auto dimming rear view mirror from a 1997 740iL (E38).

                    I appreciate the gesture.

By chance does anyone know if a place that might have the wiring diagram for thing online?

Check the E34 section on bimmerforums. It's a popular upgrade for the 5ers

I have one in my M2. super duper bobby cooper wired it for me. I pulled the wiring diagrams from BMW NA and gave them to him. I may have them in my garage. Mine came out of an e39 also.
Ill have a look later tonight and see if i can locate
