e30 wont start

Well, Its been an intermittent problem. Half of the time, it will start, and the other half it will just crank forever and ever. I dont get any power to fuse 11 or whatever the fuel pump fuse is. So I assummed it was the relay, because when I would turn the key to 2nd position and listen to the relays, they sounded like they were spazzing out(repeated clicking).

So I swapped the relays with ones from my vert, and it got it started, but when I brought it home(this is taking place from a couple weeks ago when I was bringing the car home from bodywork)and tried to start it it wouldnt go. It would crank, but no start. Then a few days later I tried, and it started up. Then after I shut it off, and tried to start it again, it wouldnt start.

Also, when It was still getting the bodywork done on it, before I brought it home, I started it and drove it up and down the street once. It died going down the street so I had to push it back. I tried to start it, but it just kept cranking.

    What is going on!?!?!?

And Ive tried the fuel pump, I took it out and gave it some juice and it ran fine. Ive tried fuse 11 & the other fuel fuses, and Ive tried the relays(all 3).

Well, I did some more testing tonight and dicovered(or so I thought) I had a bad coil. This turned out to be untrue though, because when I swapped it with the vert, it worked fine, So i checked if I was getting power. I had my dad holding the spark plug checker light to check the coil, and managed to shock him pretty good, and discovered, Im not getting any power to the coil!

    The journey continues

Check your main ground to your motor, it may be loose. It is located on the top left of the oil pan under your airbox.

Every single thing you have posted sounds (once again) like a main relay.

Ill check that later tonight, thanks for the tip. I did not know that their was a ground on the oil pan

But when I switch the relays with the ones from the convertible, it still doesnt work! Both relays work in the vert, but neither in the coupe!

Oh, and this may or may not help ,but I dont get power to fuse 11(fuel pump) when the key is in 2nd position, or when I turn the key. Then on top of this, I dont have spark & power to the coil....

Jlevie had this to say on bf.c

"Power to the coil is provided by the ignition switch via C101. Power to the fuel pump is provided by the fuel pump relay, which is only engaged when the DME sees timing data from a rotating engine. In the case f the coil, if no power is present at the + terminal of the coil one looks to the ignition switch, C101, and/or the engine harness. Since the START signal for the DME is also provided by the ignition switch, a lack of coil power probably means that the DME isn't running and thus the fuel pump won't be enabled."

So it is either the ignition switch, or a super faulty DME?

Well after reading up on it some more and doing some trouble shooting it all began to point twoards the CPS. I removed it to check the resistance which should be +/- 10 from 560 . Well, Upon removing it, I notived that one of the wires had become unattached from the metal housing, which I guess caused it not to work. It also had a resistance of 580, so I guess it was on its way out anyways. I ordered one from autohaus today for ~$50, and am just waiting from it to arrive. Hopefully this will fix the problem:D

That's what I was thinking. Lets do tandem DOHC swaps, haha.

Well, the CPS came in today. I bolted it up smiling and excited, and then a few seconds later, back to frowns still no start/fuel. Havent checked the spark yet, but most likely it still has no spark.

But there is a sensor on the bottom of the block, exhaust side, I havent checked, but today I noticed that one of the two wires going to it was cut in half and dangling.

                              WTF is this!?:hitler:
