    e30 hit in the rear

My 318is was hit in the rear last night on my way home from work. I was at a red light and this lady comes flying down the exit and made no attempt to stop before she rammed into the back of my car. There are no skid marks or anything. She had to be going at least 30. I let off the brake right as it happened and the car jumped forward, helping absorb the impact. I recently bought this car from RecycledTeen. Needless to say, I am pretty pissed. I took it to a body shop owned by my cousin and he said it's not too bad and is still drivable until I get it fixed. I parked it anyway.

If you're curious what the car looked like before the accident see RecycledTeen's thread. The car was pretty fresh.

Sorry for the crappy pictures, it was dark out when I took them. The bumper is pushed in pretty bad and it's all bent up under it. The inside of the trunk is pushed up too. The carnage is worse in person.

To make this worse, I don't know if the moron had car insurance. I didn't get her info because I thought I'd be able to get it on the police report in a few days, turns out it'll take 10 days. When she handed the cop her documents, all she handed over was a drivers license. I left before she did so I don't know what happened. I was so pissed off I just wanted to go home.

I am worried if they say it's totaled because of frame damage I am going to get screwed big time in the value.

you always get the other person's info YOURSELF. you never know what can happen. Dont rely on other people to do something that is essential to getting your car fixed. If she didnt have insurance, THAT should have been filed in the P.R.

on a lighter note, that sucks major, but from the pics it doesnt looking like anything that isnt fixable. good luck!

Hang a fresh bumper on that thing and stop whinning.

Side note observation: a metal bumper E30 would have probably walked away from that with no worries. Everyone loves the plastic bumpers until you need to use them. The alum. bumpers really are stout.

        ^^^What he said.

Always get all the info yourself, at least so that the "other" person knows you are on his/her case. Don't hesitate to ask about insurance. And if the person replies she has none, then ask him/her if you can send your lawyer directly to her or you want to make it a more simple way.

Also, that person could very well say that she was static and that you backed-up on her (no skid marks, right?). Therefore you must corroborate her version with the cops. Don't ask how I know.
Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

I didn't really have a chance to talk to the lady, the cop just said he'd make sure I got the information on the police report and to just wait for it. If she has no insurance I'll still be okay. I talked to my insurance company and they said I have 25k of coverage for uninsured motorists. It was a fuck up of my own for not getting her info while I was there but I was so pissed I wasn't thinking. Wouldn't matter anyway because usually the insurance company won't do anything until they get the police report anyway (from what my insurance company told me).

I doubt it's gonna be totaled. There doesn't look like any frame damage. Is the trunk floor wrinkled? The damage looks very minor. It doesn't look like she was going anywhere near 30mph.

The trunk floor is bulging up but not wrinkled. I'll update this once I know what's going on with it.
