    newb from mi

So, I am trading a guy my crappy truck for an 85 E30 325e. It has been repainted fron silver/blue to black has had the bumpers tucked. everything has been replaced at least once so far. I have rewired the engine compartment already because of a poor job, but I have a question about the shifter assy. It has had the z4 shifter put in it, but the thing is the sloppiest lever I have ever felt, I can litteraly lift the shift lever up 2" while in gear. If I replace these bushings am I on the right path? http://www.unofficialbmw.com/e30/dri...fter_slop.html

The ride is not bad so far, and I got most everything working, although, I have not even got it in my possesion yet. the shifter bugs me though. I need to do a trans output seal since it is leaking, and get a harness for the obc, he threw it away by accident or somthing. I also need to source some oem bottlecaps, as they are all (9) bent! Either way, I have been searching here for the past few days, with great results. I love the site, very informative. glad that I am here.

I am a honda guy to begin with, 2k prelude, and had been a mechanic for 5 yrs but left it to a hobby 2 yrs. ago. I live in the Detroit area MI.

Congratulations on the trade. You may want to post specific technical questions in the proper areas to get more response to those, but welcome to the wonderful world of E30s. While they usually don't cost much(relatively speaking) to maintain, you'll probably spend more money on it than you originally planned as the project grows and you have a chance to do the fun stuff(by fun stuff I mean 3.0L stroker/turbo M20 :D ).

yeah, you are right, I rambled. I'll definately be posting some tec stuff in other threads, but until I can start dismantiling the beast, I don't want to waste anyone's time. My plans are to restore this vehicle to it's origional state, diving boards and all. I love the chrome (aluminum) because you just don't see cars with it anymore. I grew up with shiny cars, and I miss them. So you all will be hearing from me around here. I'm rambling again....

Alright then, welcome. I like the idea of you leaving the chrome bumpers. I also grew up with chrome as part of our cars, and it is refreshing to see some every now and then.

When you can you should post some pictures of your ride. Congrats on the purchase of the ETA, have fun with it. :)

I plan on documenting the entire renewal, so once I get it in my driveway I'll take some "before" pics. untill then, here's one from last year. believe me, the pic does not show what is wrong :D

well, she's all mine, title, and all of the problems. After a few hours of inspection, This is what I have ahead of me, not too bad....

-p/s and alt. are bent form over tension, no prob.

-exhaust must be from a 318, and is attached by 2 nuts at the manifold

-one nut holding transmission mount brace to underbody.

-engine mount on pass. side appears to be broken

                    -leaky trans output seal

-cover between engine and trans bell housing missing
                    :?

                    - missing a few various little things around the underhood.

sheet metal console is connected at one point at the front, none in rear.

so, I have my work cut out for me, but as It goes, To properly make this a good ride, I should take all of that apart and replace it anyways, this just forces me to do it.

from searching the site, I have come across some good info regarding most of the problems I have, so thanks to everyone who has been working on their own rides, you have already helped out a bunch.

probably a good thing this is not with it's old owner anymore, it wouldn't have any hardware left to hold it together :D

looks like you've got your work cut out for you, the previous owner sure did do a number on it, but atleast the fixes arent too bad or too expensive, I think my engine could use a new mount on the passenger side myself.

                      Good luck, keep er' running
