    Possible Swap Opportunity

So my neighbor guy has an E34 with the M50 that quit running due a supposedly bad fuel pump. He still hasn't been able to get the car running. So he's planning on scrapping the car out. It is in pretty bad shape visually, the engine ran great the before the pump died. He had to replace a tensioner a few weeks beforehand and I tried to help him, but he got short with me so I refuse to help him troubleshoot the new issues. Anyway, he's already purchased a replacement car, so I'm thinking I should offer him a small amount for the engine and a few other bits off the car before he junks it.

I've looked at what's needed to swap an m50 into our E30s, I would need the oil pan anyway and what not. Currently my car has an "E" bottom with all the "I" goodies up top, so I'm not in a big hurry to do the swap. I'm seeing it as a opportunity to rebuild the M50 into something I'll be proud of.

Do it. If you are going to take your time and rebuild it anyway.

I'm hoping we can settle on as fair price. Although, I've mentioned to him before that I wouldn't mind swapping his engine into my car.

For one I don't live in or near any trailer parks, but nice try, blunt. I realize the car isn't worth shit. If I crack the bottom end open and it's junk, then so be it. It's one of those things, you won't know until you do it. I don't feel like I have to or need to buy it, if the price is right then we'll see.

Anything under $500 is a good buy for you, especially if you get to oversee pulling it so you get every little thing, nothing is cut, etc. All you'll need from an E36 m50 is engine mount arms and you're golden. Also these motors are tough if it ran okay I'm sure it's fine inside.

Hopefully it's a vanos, if it's a 91-92 I wouldn't pay $500 although the motor really isn't much worse than a vanos m50, just seems to be worth a little less.

Mossman, I'm sure I can snag it for way less than $500, the scrapyard will only give maybe 450 for the whole car.

I went and checked the door sill, the car's build date is 01/92.

Okay, so I had a chance to talk to my neighbor guy on the phone. He's taking the car to OmniSource and they're giving him $250 for the car. He pretty much said he'd give me the engine if I would take it out. I'm gonna pull what I can off the car, since it's just gonna get crushed. I might as well. Anyone need any E34 parts?

I would but then I have to go and get the title swapped and what not. The town I live in has a zero tolerance ordinance for junk cars, all cars have to be plated. They patrol it pretty heavily. Hell you can't leave your car parked in the same spot on the street, in front of your house for more than 48 hours or they'll ticket you.

In that case id go pull out whatever your neighbor will let you take. Engine, tranny, diff, seats, cluster, catalytic converter, etc.. Worst case scenario you make money selling the shit later..
