Going to check out a 318is tomorrow

So far owner knows pretty much nothing about the car. All he knows is that he wants $3600 OBO for it. What else should I check for besides maintenance history, mileage, overall condition rust, yada yada...

What would be a fair price to offer for an Alpineweiss completely stock car? More details tomorrow

Yes see if it has an option package called "torque" :-P

anyways, that is overpriced, make sure profile gasket is replaced.
offer high 2s low 3s for it unless it's stunning.

Make sure the timing profile gasket has been done.
The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.

Besides the usual maintenance stuff, check the dipstick for traces of a coolant -oil mix going on due to headgasket or warped head. The heads on these cars go bad. If it idles funny and has check engine light issues, use it as a bargaining point, it's just the intake hoses dry rotted or not connected right.

Checked the car out today completely stock except for
                  1. Owner didn't know what engine that car had (I did ;) )
                  2. Didn't know if the profile gasket had been changed
                  3. Bad hood alignment
                  4. Dented front fender
                  5. missing front lip spoiler
                  6. sealed beam headlights
                  7. rear bumper dented
                  8. Never changed tranny or diff fluid
                  9. No maintenance history and the owner thought the VIN was the radio code serial number
                  10. Car was only purchased for use in Italy.
                  11. Under hood with hood padding all over the engine bay

Other than that the tranny shifted smooth as butter and the car was really responsive even with the lack of torque :)

now the only choice is buy this car are keep the 323i with the M20 and import it to the US?

Sounds a lot like my car when I first bought it; I only had some maintence history, no info on my profile gasket.

Pass on that car. Not enough info about the history of the car and the owner seems to of ignored it.
