    Vinyl Shadowlining

I know alot of people use to use "shadowline tape" or basically black electrical tape to shadowline their cars, but I have seen alot of people on E90 and E46 forums start using this site http://bmwshadowline.com/ to shadowline their cars.

For the window trim pieces I would guess we would have to remove the trim from the car to wrap it, but it seems to be a pretty feasible and more permanent way of shadowlining. My car currently has plastidip and one think I couldnt get was a consistent finish along the whole trim.

What you guys think ? Anyone ever tried this ? I am ordering a roll for one of my cars I suppose I can try to see how it works on my E30. Apparently it can stretch to fit contours of trim very well and sticks very securely.

Hmm thats for 2" x 30 yards that is certainly cheaper for the amount of material. That may be better suited for the E30 since the trim is so thin. I am using a roll on a newer Benz so I need the thicker roll. Ill prob have around 1/3 of a roll left, can maybe try starting with one side.

                  This is what I used.

Free Shipping - Sharpline Trimbrite Blackout Tape with qualifying orders of $109. Shop Tape at Summit Racing.

2 rolls was enough to for me to do a sedan. Coupes probably won't need as much, but better safe then sorry.

Jaywood - Is that stuff satin or gloss? I might give that a shot...

I used some of the black "shadowline" time on my last e30, dont remember where I got it from, probably ebay, but it didnt work the greatest. Do to the stretchyness of the tape, when you apply it it tends to stretch quite a bit resulting in the edges slowly pulling away. Looks good for a while but, on my car at least, it began to pull away from the edge on the pop-out windows. Also if it happens to get a tear in it its not easily fixable like paint would be. Just my two cents.

newer cars are a bit different as their molding is more difficult to remove. For the trouble I suggest powder coating.

I'm going to look into a few different options, I'm going to be blacking out a few different items on my car and I want them all to be the same sheen, shade, etc... Maybe I'll give the tape a shot and see how it goes

Just did mine in Plasti dip. If I did it over I would definitely try this. Plasti dip has a mind of its own O.o

I did this on my coupe a long time ago. It looked good for a little while but like it's been said, shrinkage problems. I removed eventually and what a pita. Lots of goo-off. Paint or powder is the way to go. Do it right the first time.
