    decisions....

    whats up guys picked up an e30, it might need an engine, what you guys think its easiest swap to deal with in terms of getting parts taking in consideration i want the car to be daily driver/track....been into the tuning for years but never did an e30...
    also i was looking for sites where i can get parts if anyone has ideas...

        i was joking. cruise the 24v subforum.

        im all for helping out new guys, but seriously there is a crapload of good info on this site about motorswaps if you just search a little. dont be lazy, do a bit of homework.

        also..forum vendors sell parts for your car. theres a thread somewhere on this site that has a lot of sites listed for parts companies that offer upgrades for e30's along with stock replacement parts at low cost.

        just gotta do some searching :up:

            Yeah, just take some time and read through the 24v section or look into an m30 swap. I have never done either but, I have read a lot of the threads and most people say that they are decently easy for anyone who is handy with tools.

              Build a 327i stroker from an M20B27 if you're looking for a fun daily driver. Parts are abundant and cheap and you can tune and play around with it all you want.

                    an m20b27 is off of a 325e. its an I6 that should be straight forward as a swap. Its the eta version though.

                        An m20b27 is off an eta. It is a lower compression engine. Alot of guys will take the bottom end off an eta, and a top end of an I and meld them together. With the correct tuning, cams, pistons, crank, headers, exhaust, mounts, rear diff, and many other parts, it is a pretty fun engine to drive and listen to.
                        That said, technology has changed over the past 5 or so years, and motors from e36 cars go into our cars ALOT easier these days. E36s are now coming up wrecked more often (now that they are cheaper to buy) so the swaps have been done multiple amounts of times. If you aren't an M20 purist, you can pick up an e36 motor for fairly cheap in good condition and stick it into your car fairly quickly. Both types of builds are going to cost money. If you know what you are doing, you can source parts for the m20 and build it yourself, but you end up spending a couple grand (easily) to do it right.
                        Moral. There is no "cheap", "quick" way to build an engine correctly for these cars. There are straight forward swaps, but even those are going to cost at least $1500 bucks.

                            fyi, motor out of an e36 is not a straight swap, ie, wrong oil pan
