So, your going to become an Electrician?Union Dues do apply.

Well, Today I did something I never thought I was going to do. I put in my application to become an Electrician Apprentice. I have had fairly steady employment since I joined the working class 7 years ago; but now it seems my time has come to step into a career.

So I say this today to find out if there are any electricians on the forum. To find out what the it is like and any help with the training. Of course I have some understanding of what the Job requires and an Idea of what I am going to be doing.

Also, are there any Union members on here? I have never been part of one nor am I a fan of them, but it does not seem as if I have much of a choice.

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

I'm not sure how this can turn political or into something else, but this is R3V...... so please try to keep this conversation on topic and civil.

I have some friends that are and they like the job, both own their own business and are good at it, always busy and turn customers away to other good contractors. Want to be self employed or work for some one else?

    They are both union.

Have been an electrician for 18 years. IBEW local 280. Not very much work in this area. Over 200 people on the books right now.
Usually takes 2 years and to get in the apprenticeship in my local. My last 3 apprentices have had 4 year college degrees.
what you did to this car is like getting a supermodel naked and willing to do anything you please. now here you are faced with ths once in a lifetime opportunity and then you squander it by making her fuck you in the butt with a 24" strap on. you are a sad, silly little boy.

Work for someone else most likely. For the time being. Later in my life i will definitely be running my own business.

For the past year they have not been bringing on New apprentices, so there is a backup, and also a big need. Im hoping my long work history, multiple letters of recommendations, and a couple of people on the inside can help me out.

Wow, we are still in need of them in area. I had thought about it but 4 year apprenticeship is too long for me.

I'll be joining a union mandatory soon, while politically I don't agree with it but I needed a job and it is what it is, pay it and work hard.

i hope the union in your area is better then the one in mine. here they treat all apprentices like dirt. it is a good job, as long as you can take the BS they are goin to give you.
