    Mission accomplished...only took 3 days.

Yes, another subframe/trailing arm bushing/rear wheel bearing thread.

I did them in my parking spot at my building, with the car on jackstands for 3 days. Normally in the US, this probably wouldn't be any cause for concern. But here in Germany, where people rarely mind their own business, it can be trouble. Luckily, Ordnungsamt(like Town Ordinance police in their little Suzuki Samurai's with blue stripe's) never showed up.

On Monday, it took me 4 hours to drop the Subframe as a unit and break it down into pieces. The bushings came out very nicely with the M16 self tapping bolts and about 3 wacks each from a small sledge. Removed the Diff and Arms for portability. Upon pulling the axles fromthe hubs, I noticed that one of the outer sections had separated, spewing old grease into my wheel(this turned out to be the 75% of my rear-end noise, not the wheel bearing or the diff). On Tues morning, I brought the pcs to a Junkyard I frequent to use his air and fire to remove the bushings. And BTW I never knew that trailing arm bushings had compressed flammable gas inside of them, they were like little flame-throwers. Anyway, with the old stuff removed, including the other rear wheel bearing. I brought everything home, stopping on the way to buy more threaded rod to make a trailing arm bushing installer. I bought a set of eccentric's from the dealer to correct some rear toe issues. Tuesday saw ther install of the subframe, diff, and hanging the trailing arms and install of the other wheel bearing. Wednesday, I went to another junkyard and pulled a halfshaft from a 280k km 318is, that took 1.5 hrs alone. Rusty POS. And I lost one of the little parking brake cable pins that holds it to the prawl in the rear park brake assy, so I had to remove one from the iS as well. I got as far as getting the whole rear together with the only thing left to do being bleeding the brakes and bolting on the wheels.

Bled the brakes this morning with the help of the Wife, bolted on the wheels and took it for a test-drive. Beat the hell out of it for about 20 mins...all is ok, noise is gone and drives just fine.

Thanks for all of your help r3v.....

Yeah this is very depressing, I've had subframe bushings sitting in my closet for over a year now.

Being the e30 mastermind that I am I've decided on never tackling this project.

The only thing I have to look forward to on this is I have another car to drive while i do the work so that I don't have to be in a rush.

I bet the car feels pretty damn good after its all said and done though.

Yes it does, no more scary noises at hwy speeds. I can't imagine what it would've sounded like if the outer halfshaft assy separated where it goes into the trailing arm. And knowing that the diff was ok was the best part, I returned the other one I bought to the junkyard. I just had to fiddle with my RR park-brake adjuster this afternoon, I could hear the shoes rubbing at low speed.

Now I just have to install my E36 rack, put the dustboots on the front struts, and install the Z3 shifter/fresh bushings that have been sitting around for a yr, and change the trans(shifts like aSs when cold) and diff fluid(now that I know it's not toast).

EDIT-I found the park-brake cable pin when I was cleaning up wednesday evening....not when I needed it, after I spent an extra 45 minutes and breaking a socket to remove a fuggin' wheel lock from the junkyard donor. It was a Craftsman socket anyway so I'll just get another.
