Sunroof motor not hooked up to track

Hi, Just bought an e30 m3. The sunroof does not open at all. When I push the button I can hear the motor but the track is not moving so I think the motor has become disconnected from the track somehow. The exterior sunroof panel is off right now. Do you guys have any idea on how to hook the track back up to the motor.

There are plastic gears in the gearbox that can and will strip eventually. That's what happened to mine.
