my magic ETA. chip? no. but....

so some of you may recall my several threads about my eta that i was trying to make rev past 3k. well i put some injector cleaner in it, and changed fuel pressure regulator, and drove it around on this long empty road.

Upon driving it decided to "shit can" it (technical term) and take it through the paces to see if it would rev past 3k

the car drove clear past 3k, which i was happy to see, so i decided to see just how for the tach would go...

It blew past 4500, and i finally just let off at 5k! :o

i have never installed a chip in this car. i even cracked open the computer to see if it had one. not only was it the factor prom, but it had never even been open! and it's definitely motronic basic. not 1.1, or 1.3

just a crazy little sorry i thought i'd share with you guys. thanks for reading

Don't ETAs rev to 5k already?

I wouldn't take it much higher than 4.5k

Mine is limited at around 5.2k. It's an es, I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.

When I had my E car i'd take it to 5 every know and than just to "clear out the carbon" I bought it for 400.00 so I wasn't worried about it.

                that's pretty fun, and surprising.

Just don't rev it past 5300 or you will blow shit up with those single valve springs

My eta's rev limit is 6700 cause the car is a 325i but the engine is from an eta.

I can't bear to see my old 86 rev over 4000! That's enough for me even with the chip. They are economy motors with a wider crank for more throw coupled with the high torque. They shouldn't be pushed as high as the b25s

My eta has a MarkD chip, I will often run it up close to the limiter with no problems at all. It's a fun ride...

My old eta took a trip with me to a certain mountains parking lot a couple summers ago for some donuts and it spent 15+ mins straight bouncing off the rev limiter, was wicked fun too :) The engine in my current E30 is an eta bottom end with "I" top end for a 2.7L budjet stroker and it sees 7K regularly. Dont expect it to ever miss a beat even when I go turbo. A buddy of mine has the same setup with a larger cam and it is his dedicated track car and sees that 7K rev limiter everytime it gets driven. I dont see any problem with revving one to the rev limiter all day long.
