test drove my dream car today

Stopped in to motorwerks bmw, here in bloomington MN, and they had a nice looking 03 M5. Ive always wanted to drive one and so went in and talked to my buddy who had sold me the 540i-6. He was pretty busy all day but eventually I got to drive the beast. All I can say is wow. It handled so well, and its eight throttle bodies made for the sharpest throttle response Ive ever felt. You could be in any gear at any speed and the throttle was like connected to your brain, just instant power. The sound was amazing and I cant wait till the day when I can own one!
Just thought Id let you guys know, and if you ever get the chance to get in one and drive it, make sure you do!

I love the E39 M5. I worked on one yesterday and took it for a road test to verify repairs (had an airbag light, had to drive it and make sure it wouldn't come back, right? )
I LOVE that car. The next badass car I buy that is sub $50k will be an E39 M5. I might just have to buy one through my work, seeing as they give us the car for $100 over cost, which on a trade-in could be anywhere from 3k-10k below normal retail pricing on used CPO cars....

I've only been a passenger in an M5 (quite a few times, good guy up here has one), but it's one amazing car. We were going fully committed into some turns and I was astounded at how well the boat held on and threw you back with torque as he powered away, ass out.

What a car. Seem to be holding value quite a bit better than standard 540i/6's, damn shame.

They are indeed very fast. That motor (S62?) is a powerhouse, and sounds great at 7000 with an aftermarket exhaust. The late-model M5's shorter rearend gear is a plus.

BTW, they can't handle an E30 with an S50 at a stoplight.

the only problem I see with the e39 m5 is that you can own a 540/6, an 850i, and a nice e30 for the cost of a decent m5. and i dont think you'd be bored with those three cars.

every driven one? i just put a diff in one and took it for a long ass test drive, they're GREAT daily drivers. not fast enough to be a weekend car, but fast enough to keep you happy. and you should see the looks you get. they're awesome cars.

I am not big on E31s. I hate doors that weigh more than me. They don't handle particulaly well and feel too big. Id rather just have the 540/6 and an E30. :)
