    Diesel BMW's in America

I thought we never got them?
Today I saw an E28 with "524" on the back.

Is that a 524td? Any other exterior clues?

I highly doubt anyone here would change the badging.

They sold the 524td I think for only one or two years in the states. I see one around my town every once in a while.

The good news is that in a year and a half the diesel fuel standard will change in the US and we will start burning the same low sulphur stuff they use in Europe. Then we can get the cool diesel shit here too.

so i gt it you guys don't cross 324d and 324td ? then , you are soo lucky, because here they ALL look like rooling scrap yards , as much as i can se marvelous E30s here , i see the most horible and badly serviced that you could ever see in europe , and usally they clang clang hard from then engine bay  and they smoke for nothing  its a bad representation of the E30 in europe

The look like shit because people don't care about diesels and just beat the hell out of them.

What I want is the new bi-turbo 3.5L diesels I have been reading about. The 6-series powered by the 3.5L sequential-turbo diesel does 0-62 in 6.2 seconds  Now that is some hot shit right there.

That and the fact that my father-in-law has his own diesel fuel that I can get for $0.70/gallon and its in a tank in the garage is a mega bonus as well. However its for off-road commercial vehicles only (hence no taxes hence super cheap) but they would never dip test a BMW for diesel fuel

Yup the 535d touring with the m5 suspension they had in Car magazine back in April was the shit. 34.4mpg and 0-60 in 6.6. Can't wait till they can start bringing these over.

I heard from Roundel or Bimmer Mag that BMW NA might not because there wouldn't be that much of a draw for it because "diesel fuel smells and most owners wouldn't want to pull up to a diesel pump". My ass... if they don't bring one over I'll see if I can't get a scrap yard to send me one over.

What would you think for a new motor, tranny, required electronics, drivetrain, engine accessories.... I guess I would just be better bringing one over whole  But yeah... I would get one in a heart beat for an extra 15 mpg than I am currently getting, plus I can hang with all the cool truckers when I fill up at the tank 8)

Given the recent sucesses of VW in selling Jetta Tdis Id think BMW should consider it.

Diesels actually get good mileage on the highway, something important in a country where its 200mi between cities. Hybrids only get good mileage in the city.
                    Im now E30less.
