    I got r3ved....

Before any of you jump to conlusions, I didn't get r3ved REAL bad...

    Passeneger side engine mount! LOL

It was fine when I finished doing my clutch in February. I've done 2 autocrosses...and lots of spirited driving since. I was lookin under the car today as I was cooling off after trying to get my damn tie rods off, and I noticed my tranny mounts were stretched towards the driver's side of the car by about an inch and a half. I knew instantly it was my engine mount.

Thought I would share the happy news! LOL

    Moving on...hehe

So, I'm thinkin: IE Urethane Engine moutns with stock rubber tranny mount replacements. That way engine mounts will hold better, and I won't get shit loads of noise from the tranny. What do you all think?

One other quick question - it's safe to drive on FOR NOW, right? I am going to put new ones in when I do all my engine work in June sometime. So, no more autocrosses for me until then. Hell...not more hard driving.

I just wanna be sure it won't hurt my driveshaft at all - right? Really the only thing I need to worry about is the engine possibly shifting enough to cause the fan to hit the radiator, or one of my coolant hoses to break, right? And, maybe my tranny mounts finally giving too. Basically, what should I be careful about?

Go with IE urethane mounts. I love them. And the shifter only wobbles a little with stock tranny mounts. Not too much NVH.

But with a Z4 3.0L, and weak worn tranny bushings, I am unhappy. I just ordered IE tranny mounts. I don't care. I'm getting a daily beater anyway. I can have a raw e30.

How close is the engine to the radiator? Mine shifted forward about that much and my fan brushed against my radiator...so it's only one side? I don't know if I would drive it like that.

I've looked - the engine only moved horizontally. I think what's holding it in are my, when they were installed, brand new tranny mounts. If those gave, I'd hit my radiator probably.

Granted, that would suck. I do have another sitting here, and I was going to get an electric fan installed instead too.

But yea, I've looked, and the fan hasn't hit yet. If my tranny mounts gave though, the engine would probably shift far enough forward to do so.

So, IE Urethane Engine Mounts with 320i tranny mounts?

Sounds like a plan to me!

I love it when things like this happen, I can't wait to get my stroker done and have new engine and tranny mounts! weeee :P
