AWFUL shake when I hit 40mph

I drove all day and right as Im getting home i take off from a stop light and I climb up to 40mph and my car starts a weird vibrate feels like its coming from the back of the car. The seats shake and it almost feels as if something is rubbing against something else and shaking the whole car. Feels real nice on my back but what the heck is it?!

Its not doing anything else funny.

    HELP GUYS!

    thanks.

    More info.

    Does it happen under acceleration?
Could be driveshaft, guibo, center support bearing?

Does it just happen when crusing?
Could be wheels are balanced, ball joint going bad, ...

You'll need to get under the car and check out everything that 87e30 said.

So does it do it while accelerating? Or just cruising?

Sounds like just doing it more noticeably while cruising at higher speeds. I'd suspect unbalanced tires, bad ball joints. Probably will want to inspect both front control arms.

Maybe it's rear bushings though, I don't have experience with which ones will specifically cause shaking. I'd guess rear trailing arm bushings or subframe bushings could do it, though.

It could be something as simple as a piece of tread on your tire fell off, this happened to me and had the same symptons. Give your tires a quick check.

This should just happen under load, ie when accelerating. Or at least it will get worse when accelerating as far as I know.

check your Guibo and your Center support bearing. i'm in the process of changing both of mine right now. Getting mad vibration in 2nd and 3rd gear around 50km/h.

Vibrations at low speed are usually related to driveshaft.

                            - Check guibo at the tranny and center bearing.
                            - Verify that the U-joints on the driveshaft are not seized or loose.

                            - But also check the obvious: da wheels.
Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

Does it stop if you reach a higher speed? 50, 60? or does it just continue to get worse. I would guess bent wheel.
