    Fixable?

So today I got my new-to-me transmission from richarddb, a fellow r3v member. Great transaction! I received my G260 very quickly. When I unwrapped my early christmas gift I noticed this...

How would you handle this problem? JB weld? Take it to a professional? Trash it? I know that there is insurance on the shipment so hopefully I can recover a little bit threw that but I would like to fix it to swap with my failing transmission.

jb weld may do it... might not even need it, it doesnt seem to be much of a problem if you just put the peice where its supposed to go and bolt it up that way so the load from torquing it down will be equally spread. try to install it anyway and if it doesnt work, then go to fixing it.

A good welder should be able to fix that without a problem. I had a hairline crack in my bell housing welded last spring. Cast aluminum welds like crap, so make sure you take it to someone that has experience welding it. I was surprised how good of a job was done on mine. I would definitely NOT JB-weld it. That stuff barely penetrates the surface. You need metal fused back together because every shift puts stress on those mounting tabs.

Hey- Just got your PM and sent a reply. Sorry to see this, damn those UPS guys... I hope they cover you quickly so the transmission is free and you're able to then weld it up.

Its all good! These things happen! Ive already filed a claim and I'll be shopping around for a good welder to get it back on there.

While its out I need to put together a decent parts list to refresh this thing. Any recommendations? I'm wanting to clean it up and paint it high temp orange...

Clutch, shave the flywheel assuming you have the singlemass flywheel, release bearing, pilot bearing, rear main seal.

By rear main seal, do you mean the output seal? pilot bearing= center support bearing? I'm searching on pelican but Im not sure if Im finding the parts your talking about.

pilot bearing for input shaft on the trans. and rear main seal as in on the back of your block. and do the seals on the trans while its out too if you want. cheap insurance, and eassy while its out.

seriously you spread so shitty information here.

OP dont do this. do it right and take it to a shop to have that piece welded back on, its not going to cost you anything

Haha for sure bro! Good lookin out! I've already called around to get some quotes and I'll be posting up some pics once its finished.

In the meantime, what do you recommend I clean my parts with before I paint them? I have a fuel tank and this transmission I would like to clean up and paint before I swap them in.

Easy fix for a welder. Take it down to a self service car wash and pressure wash it. Just flush out the tank with a little gas while it is out to get out any grit that might be in there.

You also might want to make sure they don't need pics or an inspection for the claim before you get it fixed.
