    signs of a bad motor?

i crack my m42 oil pan whiling driving on the freeway. i have a bad feeling after i hit the pot hole so i stop asap. when i parked, close to 1Qt of oil leaked on the stop. so, is there anything i should look for to see if the motor is still good? or anything sign of a bad motor?

If you only lost 1qt and you stopped the car quickly the chance of anything being damaged is slim.

I would just fix the pan and keep driving it.

It actually takes quite a while for a motor running on no oil to grenade. You should be fine.

So you hit the pot hole, stopped a bit after, and only 1 quart drained out after you stopped?

How long were you driving for after the pan cracked?

no that was the last 1QT that came out lol. the engine bay was smoking already but i think that was due to the exhaust pipe burning the oil. when i look under the car, everything after the motor was soak with oil, even the diff and my back bumper to my tail light.

If oil still was leaking out, it still had oil! You'll be fine.

just run it hard to get all oil hot then it will divide into more oil cause heat makes things expand. or was that cold. fuck.

Yeah, I wouldn't be worried about it.
And I doubt you were riding it very hard after the nice thud that comes along w/ a cracked pan.

Shouldn't have to worry about rust for awhile, although waxoyl is probably a better option...lol -
